Lizard Needs to Lose Weight (tegu)

So my tegu "Payload" weighed 12.6 lbs last year when I first brought him home. He was very healthy, alert, and properly-sized. Lately I've been concerned about his weight since he started looking fat to me, so I weighed him again. 14.8 lbs!!! The big guy definitely needs to lose some weigh...

Re: what is the easiest exotic cat to own?

The best thing to do is to be realistic about it with them. There are indeed dangers to owning any exotic cat, even the small ones. So a bobcat attack--although probably very unlikely--is still plausible. They can be sweet animals, and when raised right will be that way most of the time. They can so...

Re: BOBCATS. To declaw or not to declaw, that is the question

I used to advocate for declawing until I was educated about the health issues it causes. Now, I don't recommend it. That being said, I believe every owner should have a choice for themselves whether or not they declaw or defang, even though I disagree with doing it. I agree with Peacefulaward's comm...

Re: Beautiful Fur Animals and their colour genetics

I am selling a copy for $89. If you are interested, send me a pm and we can arrange payment and shipment. :)

There's nothing about cherry foxes in the book, unfortunately if that makes a difference. But it talks about a lot of the other colors.

Re: Getting a fox

Welcome. :) I feed my foxes "Heartland Blend" and raw meats and sometimes boiled eggs as a special treat. They get rabbit from time to time, and rats. They do love their rats--although I believe captive-born rats have a lot of retinol in them which makes them better as treats than staples....

Re: Loki the red fox passed away :(

He passed away from liver failure, I believe. But he had diabetes too. :(

I saw it this morning and I feel so bad for the owner. You know how much they loved Loki. I'll miss seeing updates.

Re: AI

An experienced zoological vet may know how to do it or may have access to papers that could instruct them how to do it. I'd call around to experienced veterinarian facilities who might go through the trouble to learn. As far as doing it yourself, the only options would be the ones Vata Raven suggest...

Re: AI

It's species-specific. Uteruses are shaped completely differently depending on a species, so AI-ing a cow is going to be a lot different than AI-ing a fox.

Re: Enclosure Enrichment ideas (UK)

Thank you for sharing that. I''ve been hearing a lot about the exercise wheels after a recent post on facebook of a red fox using one. I know TamanduaGirl made a post about how to build one and built one for her fennec Ikigai, but it's cool to see there's a place to actually buy them.

Re: Brown Bears

Hopefully our bear owners will chime in with their thoughts and advice. I own small exotics (foxes and reptiles), but I think your enclosure for one sounds absolutely fantastic. I'd love to see finished pictures or work-in-progress pictures if possible. Welcome to the forum. It's great to have anoth...

Re: Fox Dog Project

I can tell this is really thought-out. Are you sure this isn't something you could try in the future? It looks like you've put your heart and soul into this idea.
