Re: First time raccoon parent

personally, I think male and female raccoons should be fixed by 6-8 weeks. otherwise, come breeding season, their moods will change with most. however, there might be some that don't, but more that do change. only my opinion. I personally use plain litter and have several large cement mixing pans. a...

that is a good idea. to save money, just bring a stole sample to the vets.
I don't believe in giving worm meds all the time though unless needed.

Re: Cutting nails

it is not easy to trim a raccoons nails. I use to awhile ago. but, had to do one at a time. (but, not at the same time) as ana mentioned, it helps if your raccoon has something to climb on. I have tree logs that mine have to climb to get to their top shelf. I also use to trim their nails one at a ti...

Re: wild fox question.

How devasting for you to lose your cat to a coyote. I am so sorry you had to endure such a bad experience like that. sadly, that is how predators work, they go for the throat first. I would think if your neighbor was feeding the wildlife, that should have been enough. your dog was too small to face...

Re: wild fox question.

Maybe spread some coyote urine around where your animals are? That might keep whatever killed your peacock away. I know it was a wild fox. gary seen him in the front property. guess the fox was coming for another meal. thanks for the idea, however, I am not sure if the coyote urine would attract co...

Yatzee does those things too and is about 7 months and from a breeder as well. He doesn't do the hiccups though. I'm glad to hear the head shake thing is a coonie thing. Like stated above, he too has no discharge redness or stinky ears. He's an indoor puppybearcoon(it's what my hubby and I call him...

Re: 4.5 month old blind pet raccoon pacing in circles

guess he is a she, if she was spayed. I am sorry to hear your raccoon is blind. how sad. was she born like that? sure wish there is way to reverse that, but, I doubt it overall, it is pretty easy to tell a male or female. the male's penis is more on the lower to almost mid stomach. the female has no...

Re: Anal Gland issues

george use to have that problem. I took him to the vets, they shaved him, then cleaned it out his anal gland thereafter, , sometimes I need to trim the fur around there too. however, give mary's ideas a try first and see how it goes. will bobby let you trim there? I use scissors that don't have a po...

Re: Stranger Agression

raccoons should be fixed a lot sooner. the age 5-6 weeks of age. this prevents aggression. your raccoon hopefully will change later after the getting him fixed. the longer wait for getting him fixed, the longer it takes to kick in, if at all. this time of year is approaching the breeding season, the...

I agree with mary, looks like humping to me too.
depends on the age he was neutered. the older a raccoon is to get neutered, the longer it will take for the brain to catch up with the other end

Re: wild fox question.

mary, thank you for understanding. it is upsetting to lose our pets to a predator. Understanding, however, they need to eat too. there are wild rabbits they can eat, mice, rats or whatever. my peacock's feathers are still down by the fence in the front property. A long time ago, I did see a wild fox...

Re: wild fox question.

I plan on getting an electric fence around the property and another layer around the enclosure. right now, I have 3 full grown turkeys and 6 young ones. they all stick together. (same pen my peacock was in) what I did, for now, is put a radio in the pen. also I have a fake alligator and put that ins...

Re: My 7mth old Coon is coughing/gagging occasionally but getting more frequent, help?

Deweys mom and ana posted good info.
however, I would like to know what you feed her?
not saying that is the reason, but, only trying to rule that out.
