Re: Sand cat hybrids

As far as I understood it, it is ok to breed blood type B studs to A queens because the Anti B antibodies are too weak to cause any harm. I'm sending a sample off to langford vets on Monday (I dont want a sample stuck in the post over sunday). I havent taken it yet and will do it right before it is ...

Re: Sand cat hybrids

Hi there macmanmitty, I do understand the risks between mating a type A stud to a type B queen, however to my knowledge it's actually only the first 24 hours that pose an issue. Though some british shorthair breeders say that only 18 hours is necessary ( BSH's as a breed are much more prone to diffe...

Re: Sand cat hybrids

Hi everybody, It's been a long time since I last posted but I haven't had a great deal to report before now. My Bengal cat was put to sleep due to a liver disorder that the vet believed was inherited and my British shorthair was spayed and has gone to live with a family member. After this I decided ...

Re: Would you neuter? (sand cat)

Oh, one more quick question. I'm putting the finishing touches to the outdoor run at the house I'm moving to, and was wondering what type of sand you thought would be best? I thought play sand might work well but its rather pricey and it is quite a big area to cover. (trying to save money at the mom...

Re: Would you neuter? (sand cat)

Hi Ash and Lasergrl, Thanks for the replies. I have googled about artificial insemination in cats and from what I have read it is very expensive and it is not likely the male cat will be able to reproduce naturally after it has been done (at least one article I read said that). If anybody knows more...

Would you neuter? (sand cat)

Hi everybody, Trev has shown no interest in breeding with either of my 2 female cats and I think if it was going to happen it probably would have by now. I'm moving soon and I'm unsure of what would be the best arrangement for him, as I love having him in the house and obviously with outdoor enclosu...

Re: What is a good 'starter' exotic cat and why?

Hi Elina, really interesting reading this thread. As of yet my sandcat hasnt got the idea about breeding (at least I dont think he has though I do have a slightly plump looking bengal who I have now seperated from him just incase she is having kittens). Though he does seem a lot more mature now than...

Re: Sand cat hybrids

Hi all, Haven't posted for a while. Thought I would let you know that we currently have Trev running with the bengal. Haven't heard any activity but the two get along really well, sleep next to eachother etc. Hopefully he will get the idea and actually do something. I've seen him grab the back of he...

Re: Sand cat hybrids

Hi Ash, We are very excited too but we're now trying to sort out a breeding queen that is more suitable as we have decided that if we are going to do it, we want to (hopefully) get it right the first time. As for prices I have no idea, I think a lot would depend on what the kittens actually looked l...

Re: Sand cat hybrids

Hi Elina, I saw those aswell! Thanks for looking! :) not to sure I would invest in a cross though. I like my pure breeds, at least that way if things dont go to plan with the sand cat i can have nice kittens that will find homes, if i find a good stud. Also i found some golden shorthairs at £400 eac...

Re: Sand cat hybrids

Hi Lasergrl, thank for the reply, would you recommend we even bother with my BSH then? Maybe in the future we could consider it depending on how things go with our bengal. Do you think they would retain much of the sand cat's looks, if any? I'm not sure what the dominant genetics are, and which trai...

Re: Sand cat hybrids

I've been on the hunt for a female this colour for a few months, sadly I have only come across one and she was spayed. I have found a few kittens this colour but I would much rather get an adult female than raise a kitten. I dont mind spending to get the right cat, but she would have to be perfect. ...

Re: Sand cat hybrids

My advice would be to still try for the singapura. Like Lasergrl said, you can do the BSH as a trial, or your bengal for that matter, but if you're planning on developing a new cross breed with your sand cat, I would put the extra effort forth and get the singapura. Another good thing about singapu...

Re: Sand cat hybrids

Thanks Lasergrl, I like the golden chinchilla's, just had a look and only found 2 advertised, both a bit far away but will definitely look into getting one as the coat colour is lovely. Another thing I was concerned about with the BSH (and would be with chinchillas) was that they have quite flat fac...
