Re: Introducing Shasta the strange serval

After a week and a half of Shasta being here she has decided that she likes us fairly well. She will now approach me when I go into her enclosure and she will let me pet her and give her scratches under the chin. She is really a very beautiful sweet serval. I am very happy that she found me and I wi...

Re: Pen Comparison

That wind sheild looks great! With the chicken wire top; yes I just over lap and zip tie as tight as I can get it. It takes a little practice to get it super tight but I'm good at it now LOL!

Re: Introducing Shasta the strange serval

She will let you touch her a little bit; though she doesn't like it much. She has only been here for a few days so I want to give her time to settle in before I push bonding. She's never been outside before so it's a LOT to take in. She likes men better than women but she lets me sit quitely in her ...

Re: Pen Comparison

You can buy water proof canvas that they use to make aunings (sp?) out of. We bought a bunch here when we were making tents, I would imagine it would likely be pretty easy to get some of that hem the edges and insert gromets along the sides so you can tie it on or zip tie it; you may also be able to...

Re: Introducing Shasta the strange serval

Yes she's a bit of a strange girl. So so so beautiful though and she's really very sweet considering the fact that she's been rehomed so many times. It is either a genetic thing or a dietary thing but she doesn't seem to be exhibiting other symptoms of malnourishment; she's quite large and looks pre...

Introducing Shasta the strange serval

Over the past week end we added another serval to our menagerie. Shasta is a 1 1/2yr old female serval who has (in her 1 1/2yr life) gone through 4 different homes. I don't have a whole lot of history about this girl. I believe (from the info I got from her last owner) she was hand raised by an olde...

Re: Pen Comparison

My serval's enclosure is made out of 6ftX6ft pannels to make a 24 X 12ft outdoor enclosure. I personally LOVE the panneled chain link because you can always expand more; expanding the chainlink is super easy. I personally use heavy gauge 1in mesh chicken wire on the top and zip tie it together reall...

Re: kitten milk replacer?

The KMR/Espilac was killing some babies, mainly in smaller animals such as squirrels. The reason for that is because they changed the way they made the powdered KMR/Espilac and it was difficult to digest for some animals because it wasn't disolving properly when mixed with water; causing gas, bloati...

Re: Ring-tailed Cat

I am not 100% sure if Gayla still breeds ringtails. She has kept them for years - though I am unsure about her breeding population and if any of her ringtails still produce for her. They are exceedingly hard to find. I used to own three of them myself (2 girls and a boy) and one of my girls did end ...

Re: kitten milk replacer?

I will maybe have to try this. Yes - I have had issues getting kitties to switch over as well, usually takes 4-5days after pulling until they're redily taking a bottle with the KMR. I think next time I may try the milk matrix and see how they do with it. That first few days after pulling for hand fe...

Re: outdoor enclosure

I personally have not had a problem using the 11.5 guage chainlink as long as it's stretched tight! We also have some enclosures built out of the 9 guage, and those are nice because they wear better with cat spray *yuck* but as far as cat's escaping; either gauge will likely be fine to keep them in....

Re: serval x f1 savannah mating

I don't think there's anyway to say for sure if she's bred or not. Typically heats will last until a fertile egg has actually implanted in the uterus. Has said serval bred before? I know many people who have servals together never to produce any offspring. Pure exotic cats are PICKY breeders, some w...
