Re: Paca

Aw, that's unfortunate. Do you think with time your paca will tame down at all? Or does it really just seem impossible? For some species that early window of babyhood is crucial. I don't think she can stop being skittish. When she spooks she just runs in a sudden burst and they can jump high despit...

Re: Paca

That's too bad. She was probably wild caught, thus they claimed tame rather than bottle fed or hand raised. The breeder I had contacted at the time had a waiting list of 6 years but that's the only sure way to get a pet quality one. I saw another ad for pacas where they were claimed to be hand-rais...

Re: Paca

I've had my paca since January. She's about 7 pounds and is supposed to be about 6 months now. She was advertised as 'tame' and 'educational quality' but she spooks easily and doesn't tolerate being held. I've read that they are irreversibly wild if they aren't handled regularly before 40 days.

Right, why is meat meal on this list? I see no evidence against it.

Re: Available Viverrids?

I was on a waiting list for an Asian palm civet a few years ago, Kapi'yva Exotics had them but I guess they stopped breeding. I haven't seen one since.

Re: NC Importation Laws? Armadillo

See, that's what I was starting to think. Pretty annoying that she wouldn't really tell me that she wasn't sure if I needed something or not. Plus the leprosy thing is not valid for a captive-bred three-banded. That's what I'm interested in by the way. Since they are exotic I won't be dealing with a...

NC Importation Laws? Armadillo

I've been interested in an armadillo for some time now but this response I got from the NC Wildlife Resources Commission has always stopped me from pursuing it. "You must obtain the appropriate permits/licenses from the NC Department of Agriculture before bringing this species into the state of...

Re: Rant on a thing

They say they took them because she didn't show where a law says it's legal. They took them because the local law didn't know if it was legal. There's no state law against owning sloths. There's no law against it but because they couldn't show a law saying it's legal they took them. If you think th...

Re: Rant on a thing

So it appears that after her song and dance about being a highly respected educational facility, she didn't even have the proper permits to operate her offsite 'educational center' in Washington and she has had animals confiscated. I'm flabbergasted that someone with so much standing could overlook ...

Re: Pit Bulls

I forgot to mention that according to what she told my sister, he has been receiving professional training and the trainer said something along the lines of him likely getting worse with age and that was just his personality. Not all pits are the same, but I think these dogs should be considered hig...

Re: Pit Bulls

My dad was attacked by our friend's pit bull yesterday. He ran out of the house where my dad was waiting to attend a meaning with the owner's mother. He received punctures to his chest, thigh, hand, and other areas, plus he bit the owner's mother as she was trying to get him to stop. He said he was ...

Re: Rant on a thing

A lot of papers on animals, especially in the field is just published observations. It's not like double blind study is required to note a behavior you saw. Repeated observation would be required to make solid conclusions though. I saw one published paper where the guy just documented what happened...

Re: Rant on a thing

Bora is upset because CT couldn't care less about other people who would like to follow in her foot steps. I can't say I blame him. I'm a bit disappointed, I thought we all agreed that what she is doing is hideous. As I said before, withholding information that could potentially keep other captive s...
