Re: Loki the red fox passed away :(

Rest in peace, Loki.

Been following him for years now. Noel is a very nice guy who was happy to chat with me about foxes and exotic pet ownership in general.

I wonder if he'll get another fox some day?

Re: BOBCATS. To declaw or not to declaw, that is the question

Personally, I would not recommend declawing a bobcat. Besides from the negative effects on the animals health from doing so, anybody who meets your animal will subscribe to the "Oh yeah, exotic pet owners declaw/defang their animals to make them safe" mindset. From my point of view, I woul...

Not a bobcat hybrid- but claimed lynx hybrid.

What a beautiful kitten. It looks a lot like it has lynx in it, although I'm skeptical.

Re: Spoke to usda officer regarding confusion

People in the minkenry community are like this too- adamant that you don't need a USDA license to breed and sell mink, no matter how much proof you show 'em. Some people just never listen.

What a cute little guy! So far, have you noticed any differences between a rehome and a baby purchased directly from a breeder?

He's actually pretty cute! I don't really like roaches, but he's not creepy looking.

Exotic Cubs

I saw an ad for caracal kittens on Exotic Animals For Sale. The breeder linked their website: http://www.exoticcubs.com/ It seems they breed (or can broker you) a variety of rare exotic felines, including cheetahs, although they don't get them often. This was automatically a red flag to me, since I'...

Re: Brown Bears

I like bears a lot, haven't seen any private owners of brown bears though. Would love to see some pics of their enclosure once it's done, and pics of them once they arrive! :)

Pat has experience with black bears, not sure how different they are from brown. Maybe she'll chime in if she has the time.

Re: "Best" state?

NC has pretty good laws, although all native wildlife (red foxes, skunks, raccoons, etc) are illegal to have without a USDA license. All cervids are also illegal to own here. Other than that, it depends on the county and city.

Re: Sooty Owls

I’d definitely not recommend any eagle owl for beginners. They’re extremely powerful birds. Their talons are capable of wrapping around your skull and they exert enough pressure per square inch while squeezing to crush it. Many falconers have had their shoulders or arms shattered by handling these b...

Re: Sooty Owls

If you’re interested in pet owls, one of the best species to start with is the white faced owl. They are small and docile although can be flighty and hard to get to sit still on the glove. Since they’re not native to the US they’re perfectly legal unless your state says otherwise. In fact, I know a ...

Re: Sooty Owls

You’d have to contact an exotic raptor importer to ask. I’ve never seen sooty owls for sale.
