Re: BOBCATS. To declaw or not to declaw, that is the question

I feel about declawing cats like feel about venomoid snakes... both procedures that are of no benefit but often plenty of harm to the animal.

If you can't contend with it without chopping bits of it off, go for something less demanding or dangerous.

Re: AI

From the information I've gathered talking to the few people who have been forthcoming, AI'ing foxes isn't even similar to inseminating dogs.
Inseminating cows is different to inseminating pigs is different to inseminating dogs. As ash says... mammals don't have one model of uterus.

Re: AI

There are a couple of paper that came out of the Belyaev project that are worth a read. There's very little info out there though and I ended up contacting fur farms to see if they were prepared to share information but no joy was had.

Re: Fox Dog Project

You've obviously put a lot of effort and thought into this. The only thing I can really offer constructive criticism on is the wish for a very low prey drive in the outcome breed. You're using some pretty high drive base breeds there so selectively breeding for low drive would be essential if you ho...

Re: To those thinking of taking on a fox this year....

Thanks for your input guys. They're such wonderful animals to keep if you aren't biting off more than you can chew but seeing them pushed from pillar to post is upsetting. Anyone is welcome to use it, it makes the time spent writing it more worthwhile. I have a slightly better worded version that is...

To those thinking of taking on a fox this year....

THINKING OF FOXES THIS YEAR? So fox cub season is nearly upon us and the "Talk to me about fox keeping!" and "Fox breeders wanted!" posts are coming in thick and fast. A pet fox might sound like a dream come true but they really are not for everyone and it's not as simple to keep...

Re: A quick update on Sushi...

Another sushi update:
After what seemed to be a nearly complete recovery with only mild neuro symptoms, he has now developed steroid induced cushings and is going bald.

In case anyone ever wondered, half naked tanuki look bloody ridiculous.

Re: Foxes Wanted (UK) for 2018

I'm not sure she does anymore Pat. I occasionally speak to her on Facebook and to my knowledge she is not breeding. I know she bred some corsacs and possibly some fennecs but I don't believe she bred reds. It's a shame as she's the sort of ethical keeper I'd be willing to buy from. I've looked exten...

Re: I might get another fox and question

Ammonia won't deter rats I'm afraid. If anything, they seem drawn to it. Ammonia and other urine smells mean animals which mean potential food sources. I've had a bit of an issue now we're having a cold snap with rats around my chickens and the bloody things are in and out of the fox enclosure too. ...

Re: Foxes Wanted (UK) for 2018

Dave did have fennecs of his own but has pretty much sold up in the last year after an accident.
There seems to be next to no fennecs in the UK at all :(

I'm not sure if I'm just being an idiot (I usually am to be fair!) but I've not been able to use tapatalk to browse the forum. When the update happens, will you be looking to have it accessible from the tapatalk app at all? I can never upload photos to the message board and I imagine this is a commo...

Oh, good. I'm glad he is okay. Thanks! I dearly wish I could upload pics and videos to this forum. I managed to take him out for a walk around the garden today which must have been blissful for him given that he's been stuck in a crate for what feels like forever. It turned out to be meningitis or ...
