Waiting list for silver foxes next spring.

Hello guys, I'm about to start putting together my waiting list for the litter I plan to breed in the spring but I'm not sure where best to post it. I also welcome feedback so please do feel free to share your thoughts. I have a planned breeding between Squirrel and Riley next year. Squirrel (red pl...

Re: Fresh food diet sheets/plans

@Katalyst Are you wanting to make a raw mixture, like this? https://primalpetfoods.com/collections/raw-frozen-mixes and https://primalpetfoods.com/collections/raw-frozen-grinds Or dry kibble? Raw. There's not really anything like it in the UK for anything other than cats and dogs and whilst it's ju...

Re: Fresh food diet sheets/plans

While I can't give very detailed insight, Katalyst. For foxes (expect for the fennec) have a very similar diet to domestic dogs that aren't on a kibble diet. So that's a good place to start your research. Thanks Vata. I'm very much a diet geek and not new to nutrition. I should have made myself cle...

Fresh food diet sheets/plans

Hi guys, I'm looking to know what people are offering as a complete diet (fresh meats/fruits etc as apose to kibble based) to the following species: Red/silver, arctic and corsacs foxes, fennec foxes, raccoon dogs/tanuki, skunks, African pygmy hedgehogs, long eared hedgehogs, raccoons, coat, and any...

Re: Pet Foxes 2018

I have three adult foxes: Riley is a cross fox albeit a very low expression one that looks almost like a classic red. He is calm, confident and very attached to me although I never thought I'd be saying that as he came to me at 5 months old and I will carry the scars from his hatred of me for the re...

Re: What's it like being a breeder?

I have spent the better part of a year planning a particular pairing of my foxes. I put an enormous amount of effort into putting together a waiting list of really capable and awesome homes for potential babies. I spent time getting to know those people, talking them through enclosure design and bui...

Re: BOBCATS. To declaw or not to declaw, that is the question

I feel about declawing cats like feel about venomoid snakes... both procedures that are of no benefit but often plenty of harm to the animal.

If you can't contend with it without chopping bits of it off, go for something less demanding or dangerous.

Re: AI

From the information I've gathered talking to the few people who have been forthcoming, AI'ing foxes isn't even similar to inseminating dogs.
Inseminating cows is different to inseminating pigs is different to inseminating dogs. As ash says... mammals don't have one model of uterus.

Re: AI

There are a couple of paper that came out of the Belyaev project that are worth a read. There's very little info out there though and I ended up contacting fur farms to see if they were prepared to share information but no joy was had.

Re: Fox Dog Project

You've obviously put a lot of effort and thought into this. The only thing I can really offer constructive criticism on is the wish for a very low prey drive in the outcome breed. You're using some pretty high drive base breeds there so selectively breeding for low drive would be essential if you ho...

Re: To those thinking of taking on a fox this year....

Thanks for your input guys. They're such wonderful animals to keep if you aren't biting off more than you can chew but seeing them pushed from pillar to post is upsetting. Anyone is welcome to use it, it makes the time spent writing it more worthwhile. I have a slightly better worded version that is...

To those thinking of taking on a fox this year....

THINKING OF FOXES THIS YEAR? So fox cub season is nearly upon us and the "Talk to me about fox keeping!" and "Fox breeders wanted!" posts are coming in thick and fast. A pet fox might sound like a dream come true but they really are not for everyone and it's not as simple to keep...

Re: A quick update on Sushi...

Another sushi update:
After what seemed to be a nearly complete recovery with only mild neuro symptoms, he has now developed steroid induced cushings and is going bald.

In case anyone ever wondered, half naked tanuki look bloody ridiculous.
