Re: Official Raccoon vaccine protocols

From my scientific literature research and talking with several veterinarians, killed vaccines are the way to go, and since the raccoon can get both types of distemper, you should vaccinate for both dog & cat varieties. Cat distemper vaccines can be found at farm & ranch stores and through l...

Re: New Member + Inquiries

As long as the adults in your life approve and help support you, and you are a committed young person, this is not for us to discourage you in your dreams. I am a HS teacher & I know how important it is for young people, ALL of us, to live our dreams. No matter what age we are, we should always ...

Re: Lover of ANY and ALL animals, but seem to have a special connection that attracts raccoons into my life .

Welcome Lamia! Coons are stupid smart and loving when they want to be! My husband and I say they are our Spirit Animal! We ranch and have no neighbors here in SW ND and will raise orphaned coons. We let them leave when they get old enough and they want to, usually at about 8-10 months old. That's wh...

Re: Roaming Raccoon, Where did I go wrong?

Nema, My husband & I know EXACTLY what you are feeling. We went through this same thing a few years ago and just within a few days ago. Our female heard wild coons on the porch whooping and she clawed her way out through a window that was barely cracked. She had been very satisfied living with u...

Re: HEY!! Im New

I'm not a know it all, but I teach HS science, all sciences, so I have to make it my job to know about these things. Also, there is published research showing successful vaccination of coons for rabies in the wild with treated bait in several states, including California . I cannot understand why an...

Re: Coons Kissing/licking on my mouth

Mine aren't doing it to see what's inside my mouth, yet. I could see that happening though. This morning we introduced our blue tick into the bedroom to lay on the bed and Custer, the smallest male was frightened more than the other two, so I went up and made kissing sounds and his licked my face an...

Re: Love to help people with horse questions!

I know this is an old post, but I'm a new member and this interested me. Regards to prk22 post, our horses run in a big pasture with our cows. In our home pasture they also do. But when calving starts, we remove them. And really unless you have he facilities to separate them etc right up near calvin...

Coons Kissing/licking on my mouth

I wanted to know if anyone has had this experience. Of my 3, two now just suddenly started kissing all over my mouth. The 1st one that did is the lover. The 2nd one did it right after I had to discipline her. That felt as if she was submitting to me. Any thoughts? My previous coon never did this. An...

Re: What does everyone use as litter?

Well my coon never messed with the tray. But when she was cycling and even after, she was always rubbing her cooter on the edges of it. And eventually, she would only pee in there when she didn't want to go outside due to the weather.

Re: Pregnancy and coons

IDK if this info is too late, we I lived with a bred coon. She was bred in her 1st year & she was very close to us and had always slept with us. She later took to sleeping in the living room and was CRABBY when in heat, then got sweet after it was over, only to get SUPER CRABBY again when she wa...

DeweysMom is correct. I growl & hiss while holding them down & also, I will pinch slightly at the neck nape and shake a little for an immediate response. They seem to take that well.

Re: What does everyone use as litter?

My older coon I trained a few years ago finally settled upon a litter pan with grates and a removable slide our drawer. I would put puppy pee pads into the drawer and changed it. I tried litter like the zeolite (clay) pellets it came with be she ate those. I have the same set up with my 3 babies now...

Re: Hello

Hello everyone. I found your forum & I loved reading some of the posts here. Especially about raccoons, since I have raised one into adulthood and now have 3 orphans, 2 boys & 1 girl. I live in SW ND, where it is illegal to 'possess' wildlife. About 2010 or a little earlier, the last 'licens...
