Dingo/NGSD breeder?

Initially I thought that these species were considered wild and therefore illegal in my state, however I contacted Fish & Game and was informed that they are considered domestic breeds. I hear their title changes often, but as of now, they are one of the only exotics legal in California, which o...

California troubles

I grew up in San Diego and didn't think I'd ever go back. In my current state, laws on exotics are extremely loose (practically nonexistent). As some of you may know, I had plans to buy a mink kit in the spring. I have the base of my enclosure set up and was ecstatic, as I always wanted a mink and w...

Re: Lagomorphs?

Also, this is a bit random, but are viscachas ever seen in the captive trade? There is a plains viscacha at a local private exhibitor, but they refused to give me any information when I visited because "wild animals don't make good pets".

Lagomorphs?

As a bunny mum and taxonomy geek, I absolutely adore so many lagomorph species (which is all of them to be honest). I have heart that they are very difficult to keep because they scare easily and are delicate, but I imagine it can be done, considering the European rabbit was kept in captivity in the...

Re: Your Animal Experience Level

I chose intermediate because while I don't have a whole lot of exotic experience, I have owned dogs and all sorts of rodents as well as being an active participant in feral cat and wildlife rehabilitation, having hand-raised six litters of kittens and five softbills. I'm also sort of 'retired' as I ...

Re: Which legal exotic canine would you want as a pet?

I have always wanted a wolf, though it's difficult to find high content breeders that will sell to the general public. I also love dingoes and NGSDs, but I think a big black timber wolf takes the cake. I love foxes but I don't know if I could handle having it outside all the time (or marking my enti...

Where to purchase zoo surplus?

As I've posted about before, my dream exotic is a short-beaked echidna, but as far as I'm aware, there are no private breeders. Thus, my only options would be zoo surplus or an import from New Guinea. Obviously, I'd rather go with the former. Does anyone know of where I can find zoo surplus echidnas...

Egyptian Fruit Bat?

As far as I'm aware, all fruit bats are federally banned, but one recently popped up on exoticanimalsforsale.net from Panhandle Exotics. Is there a loophole for this species?

UGH, I love tanuki so much. In fact, they are what got me interested in exotics altogether.

If foxes are anything like puppies, man, I don't know how you're going to do it, Ash!

Re: Who's getting a fox this season? 2017

All this fox talk has me jealous! It drives me nuts that lions and tigers are allowed in my state but not foxes, skunks, or racoons.

Do you think a ferret or mink's head could fit through it? I was considering building one for my mink to-be, but was worried because of all the horror stories of small heads getting stuck.

Is that the same sort of NIC cube cage used for rabbits? I didn't know they were used for other animals!

Since you're in the UK, it's probably a polecat.
