Re: Kaida the Green Cheek

Glad he's settled in and you both are happy. ESA only protects you for housing. A landlord can't refuse to let you stay with the bird(most colleges can though as far as dorms). There's not really a legit registry for them but you get a note from your DR. https://www.animallaw.info/article/faqs-emot...

Kaida the Green Cheek

Sorry I never got around to giving an update on him. As you can see, I did decide on the name Kaida. Also thought it would be a good idea to give him his own thread to post occasional updates! He has settled in very well. At first he was very nippy, but has gotten much better. He's generally friendl...

Re: Considering a parrot...

I actually brought him home yesterday, a few hours after I posted here! https://www.instagram.com/p/BrTjidnBvoo/ I actually wasn't expecting to bring him home so soon. Thought it'd be a lil while, but he was ready to go and his cage was set up. Only one toy for now, but I'll be getting more for him ...

Re: Considering a parrot...

I got the cage a few days ago!
Yesterday I picked out my bird too.

He's a 4 month old pineapple green cheek!

I just need to finish preparing his cage and my room for him and he'll be coming home!

Re: Leopard seals?

I am highly certain you can't have these as pets... They aren't kept in captivity. I only know of one (named Casey) that has been in captivity, and it was a rescue that lived at the Taronga Zoo in Australia. He was euthanized in 2014.

Re: Considering a parrot...

Yes, I've seen a few of their videos! They have a toco toucan and a blue throat macaw and they are absolute stunners. I've also watched a bit of AdventuresWithRoku. They do some free flight as well and have a Major Mitchell's cockatoo named Pabu (my favorite cockatoo species). Yeah, I'm nervous abou...

Re: Considering a parrot...

Yeah, I'm sure its possible. Just a lot more challenging. What ever happens, I'll make sure that it'll cooperate with my bird's needs.
Currently looking for a cage. I want a big one, and I hope to train them for free flight! And I'll certainly post photos once I get them and they have settled in.

Re: Considering a parrot...

Made my mind up on the species! Getting a green cheek. Either a cinnamon, turquoise, or cinnamon turquoise hopefully! I should be getting one sometime in December or early January. Super excited but also nervous. Still worried a bit about my future, my parents are trying to push me towards college b...

Available Viverrids?

I absolutely adore viverrids and I hope to have some in the future, but my options are quite limited due to the importation ban. I'm wondering what species are available in the US. There's plenty of genets and I've seen a few binturongs for sale but nothing else. Are there Asian palm civets?

Re: Considering a parrot...

I found some pearly conures for sale (they're really rare) but they are in Michigan. I hope they ship.
I'm probably going to have to wait till December to finally get a bird anyway though.

Re: Considering a parrot...

I've narrowed down my options to the following: Cockatiel Lovebird Parrotlet Pyrrhura Poicephalus Pionus Small parakeet (Budgie, Bourke's, and Barred) I'm strongly leaning towards the pionus since they are on the larger side (but not TOO large) but also generally quiet, whereas most larger birds are...

Re: Considering a parrot...

Kinda worried about the noise level of lories. As much as I want a black lory I think I'll wait on that and get something quieter, like a black-capped conure.

Re: Considering a parrot...

Oooooh I see someone who'll be having some black lories available soon. Super tempting. And I looked into the lorikeets and their noise level, and it seems they can be screechy and very loud when they want to (esp. if they don't get enough attention) but are generally on the quieter side. I'll defin...

Re: Considering a parrot...

Money isn't a huge issue, but there is a limit. I was looking into hawk-headed parrots but quickly stopped as they can go for over 2k. Toucanets and aracaris certainly exceed the limit as well. Would absolutely love a collared aracari though. Stunning and unique animals. Aren't lories/lorikeets quit...

Considering a parrot...

Considering! I told myself not to get anymore pets right now, but at the same time I want a social and interactive pet. My mental health has kinda declined over the past couple years with lots of isolation, so I really want an animal that is more of a friend and will provide some moral support, unli...
