Oh, I love this breed!
Another ridgeback breed is the lovely phu quoc ridgeback, but this one is quite unique compared to the others.

Re: Sled Dogs :)

It's usually best to get one dog at a time so you can put all your focus on raising the one, but if you feel like you can handle two then you can go for it. My sister raised two pups at once (though I don't think she did the best job). Huskies and samoyeds are typically very dog-friendly, so if you ...

Re: Contemplating Ori's color - Tamandua Colors

Hmmm well maybe one day a lucy will appear? Either way the albinos are really cool too.

Only some leucistic animals have blue eyes. Others have dark eyes, so who knows. So possibly even if there was a lucy it may have dark eyes anyway.

Really interesting creatures, though!

Re: UGH - Smooshed faced chihuahuas

That's interesting, considering that my parents got a Yorkshire terrier (that's still currently alive, just in the hands of one of my mother's friends) back in 2010. She's doing just fine! She's perfectly healthy, actually. My dad had a purebred rottweiler and a Samoyed back in the day, and claims h...

Re: Contemplating Ori's color - Tamandua Colors

I'm typically not a fan of albinos either (unless we are talking bell or rainwater albino leopard geckos), but after doing a quick search, I saw two photos and they really are pretty! They are like a sherbet orange color. The melanistic tamanduas look really cool too. Do you know if there are any le...

Re: Darla my silver fox died

I'm sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is never easy, but she certainly lived a long and happy life with you.

I'm sure Donnie will be okay! He'll get better with time, and you'll have each other to get through it.

Re: Czech Republic

Onyx, have you seen that private individuals for sure can keep large carnivores? Or do you need something like a USDA permit, or zoo permit? I'm planning on moving to Ireland but keeping my options open, and I want to have the chance to keep wolves, striped hyenas and African wild dogs. I'm not rea...

Hello! I hope you find this message board helpful. Its certainly helped me quite a bit. Its good that you're doing as much research as you can! I still don't know 100% what animals I'll have in the future myself, so I'm just learning as much as I can about as many animals as I can. Its fun to learn ...

This is heartbreaking. I'm awfully sorry.
12 years is certainly quite a long time. You must've taken great care of her. She was lucky to have you.

Re: BOBCATS. To declaw or not to declaw, that is the question

As someone who has been raised around cats, declawing was something I'd hear about a lot. Like everyone else here, I would not recommend it. I actually stand strongly against it. No cats I have been around were declawed, so I cannot compare the behavior of a declawed cat to a clawed cat, let alone w...

Re: Sooty Owls

I can tell they're dangerous just by looking at them! They certainly wouldn't be my first owl, if I do ever get an owl (though I'd still love to own one).

Thank you for the video! It was very interesting (and the barn owl was adorable, of course). I'll likely be watching more of their videos.

Re: Sooty Owls

Not sure if I'll ever really get an owl, I'm still looking into it, but thank you for that info! Other than the Tyto genus, my favorite owl is the Eurasian eagle-owl. The white-faced owls are a close second, though. I have no idea if owls are legal here in Louisiana, but I won't be staying here. Hop...

I see that the greater sooty owl is also native to New Guinea. Are there any restrictions on exports there?

Sooty Owls

So, after seeing the post on pet owls, I'm curious. How common are they in captivity? I know they are in some zoos, but are any kept privately? I'm assuming they are quite rare, mainly because they are native to Australia. They are absolutely stunning though.
