Re: Bleeder??

I'm glad he's feeling better. Is this something you are going to have to medicate for forever? If so, maybe mix in a peanut butter sandwich cookie.

Re: Our new addition, meet Teddy!

As long as he's not pulling the "legs" off his ball and swallowing them, it's not a problem, is it? They are all soo cute and I was seriously impressed with the thought that you had fish tanks and coons, until I realized you were in a store. The first thing that succumbed to my coon were f...

Re: White Tigers

Inbreeding is a serious problem. It concentrates their genes, both for "good" and "bad" traits. If white tigers occur naturally in a wild population, then white tigers are obviously not a separate breed. Is the AZA ban real or just on paper? Most inbreeding occurs in "domesti...

Re: Sometimes I just don't get it

I could and probably should, but except for treats, they eat what and whenever they want. Their chicken and any other spoilables I take up and give to the chickens, goats, turkey (i.e.someone else) after a couple of hours, but they have access to taste of the wild all the time.

Okay that I can understand. Its just that Chloe usually steals food she likes. She has all my secret stashes firmly mapped.

Sometimes I just don't get it

Chloe doesn't like raw poultry. She Knows she doesn't like raw poultry, if I offer it to her she gets an insulted look and walks away. So.....why does she always steal it off the stove when I'm cooking it for her & Scooter? I find one peice on the stove and the other on the floor where Scooter h...

Re: Help with handling an almost adult raccoon

The vet usually gives my coons their shots, but when my dad did it he used the same method. I (the person the coon is most bonded to) hold the coon in my arms and the vet or another person gives the shot. The last time Chloe got a shot I had a hard time afterwards extracting her from under my tshirt...

Re: New to Raccoon life..took in an adult

About toys- mine love small rocks and golf balls (its sooooo entertaining to roll golf balls around the bath tub at 3am). They like but quickly desqueaker stuffed toys. One of mine had a pacifier he loved. Some will chase a laser just like a cat. They are all different in what they like but mine hav...

Re: Help with handling an almost adult raccoon

I also do the peanut butter & cookie method. For shots evidently I'm the only coon owner with iron assed coons, mine don't seem to realize they are getting a shot, but that won't help you. The only thing I can think of, and it would only work once, is to get someone who is experienced with holdi...

Re: New to Raccoon life..took in an adult

Hi critter lady, welcome. He and you are so lucky to have him. What's his name? 1. I don't think coons are ever too old to be potentially destructive. So you are going to want to coon proof your house. put away anything fragile that you treasure, not up (coons climb) away, out of sight and best behin...

Re: Aggressive coon, need help!

My "angels'" nickname is heathen devil monster child. And she earned it as a terrible 1 & 2 yr old. You want your baby to be able to be "caged" quietly so you can get him to the vet when necessary. I didn't and my vet gets real snarky about me holding them on my lap at visits...

Re: Vega Thread (Pics, Updates, etc.)

Unless coatis are know to be especially apt to have problems with salmonella, I wouldn't worry about it too much. As long as you keep him healthy, he is as likely to catch something from you as you are from him. He sounds like a good boy. My coons like to stick their noses up my nose too. I think he...
