..."done nothing to them but eat some damn cat food"

Sounds like the fox may have gotten loose at one point or another as well.

Namira hurt her paw or is having a reaction? (cat)

Last Friday we noticed Namira limping a bit on her right front foot. I wasn't sure if she had just sprained it or something, so I left her alone at first. I think it was on Saturday, I was able to look at her foot, and she's got some dark debris up between her two outer-most toes, which I'm guessing...

Re: Dog has lump on ribcage, won't lay down, hunched back

Just wanted to update, Conte is doing very well. Once in a blue moon his IDD will flare up, and mom gives him a prescription anti-inflammatory for it, which almost always helps it clear up within a day or so. Vet said to give him -I think- a quarter or half tablet every 8 hours (and they're tiny!) u...

Re: Tanuki Keepers... Lend me your Knows.

I thought tanuki were illegal to export/import (I don't remember which)? Or do you live somewhere/have a license where that isn't applicable? Maybe I'm thinking of another animal or country.

Re: lump on anna my coonhound?

When Max was gone, Emo was still young, and she kept looking for him for a few weeks after. Conte didn't seem to notice, but maybe he just didn't think to go looking for him like Emo did. She loved Max very much, and now that she's an old lady, she acts a lot like Max did when he was old.

Re: USDA Code Appears to Conflict with Federal Mandate

It's not a gray area. I posted both of those definitions together. Farm animals like foxes and mink used for fur are not also wild animals. You need a dealer permit if you're selling foxes as pets. If you are using foxes for fur, you can't sell them as pets, and therefore do not need a dealer permit...

Re: lump on anna my coonhound?

I'm sorry Pat, this shouldn't be how things are for such a great person like yourself, and your beloved animals.

But, Anna is at peace now, and she left knowing you were there to watch over her.

Re: USDA Code Appears to Conflict with Federal Mandate

Animals like foxes, mink, rabbits, etc. bred and used specifically for fur and meat are considered "farm animals", not "exotics" or "wildlife" under USDA. So it's basically saying the same thing as the USDA definition. I think this is just meant to clarify that animals ...

Re: lump on anna my coonhound?

Max was just very old. He may have had other issues that we didn't know about, but when he was younger we treated anything that we found (broken tooth, ear infection, etc). Vet never suspected any conditions or diseases. So, I think his body was just too old to keep going on. We don't know his exact...

Re: lump on anna my coonhound?

When it was Max's time to go, he didn't want to eat/drink anymore or go out. For a little while we were carrying him up and down the back stairs to go potty, but after a week or so of that, he didn't even want to get up. We tried to feed him by hand but he'd only eat a little. When they don't have t...

Re: First time raccoon parent

^ All good info. Reason you should take them immediately, like DeweysMom said, the longer you have them the less room there'll be at a sanctuary, you may be fined for keeping wildlife illegally, they could euth them for rabies because you handled them (much less likely if you turned them over ASAP i...
