Re: Trying to Pee

They're about the size of a dime. I have to cut them up to put down the rat's throat. We tried holding him down and opening his mouth last night and he spit it back up... This fox just does not want to eat these pills. Plus his lack of appetite isn't helping. I'll ask about the flavoring option. I t...

Re: Trying to Pee

He won't take the pills... I've tried putting them in absolutely everything. Peanut butter, strawberries, ice cream, bacon, chicken... The last thing I'm trying now is frozen-thawed rats. I'll shove the pill down the rat's throat and see if he'll take his medicine that way. I hate seeing him like th...

Re: Trying to Pee

My normal vet doesn't do 24/7 care, so I had to take him to a different emergency vet. He started peeing out a decent amount of blood once we got there. They did a urinalysis and determined that he has a UTI. They gave me pills to give him. They said if it doesn't clear up after a few days to bring ...

Trying to Pee

Nova the red fox is trying to pee, but he can't. He's trying constantly and nothing is coming out. I know he needs to go in to the vet, but should he go in tonight or could it wait until tomorrow?

Re: Ripping Out Fur

Wanted to update that she's doing a little better. The wound has completely scabbed over, which is good. And she's being very good not picking at it which is surprising. She hates the chlorohexedine, but that's because it stings. So that's really hard to get on her. But she loves the salve. She love...

Re: Red Fox legality in Utah?

That you would need to talk to realtors about before buying a house. And would have to look up each city's zones to see where city limits end.

Re: Red Fox legality in Utah?

Utah County is okay, but many of the cities are not. I live in Genola, UT where it is legal.

Re: Ripping Out Fur

So the vet gave me some chlorohexidine and a salve to put on the wound as well as some painkillers. They shaved some of the fur to keep it clean, and now it's easy to see. It looks way bad... I really wish I'd taken her in the first day now. They said it isn't from pulling out fur. They said it's de...

Re: Ripping Out Fur

Looks a little worse today and she isn't doing very well. She's hiding in her igloo and will whine if I approach. So she's obviously in a good amount of pain.

I called the vet and set up a time for her to go in tomorrow.

Re: Ripping Out Fur

Okay, I put on some antibiotic ointment. Hopefully she'll be okay. I need to let her future owner know what happened.

Re: Ripping Out Fur

I wish they liked to be brushed. That would help a lot. I haven't ever tried brushing Luna. When she heals up, I may try that.

I don't know if they were mats or not. I run my fingers all down through their fur and don't ever feel anything.

Thanks for the advice.

Ripping Out Fur

During the summertime, some foxes will just rip out their winter coats. Fable has done this every single year and has patches of little bleedy bald spots on his hips during this time. Ifrit a few times has ripped out the fur on her chest. One of the foxes I interned with a while ago also did that. W...

I'm sure he'll make all the necessary adjustments when the needs arise. :) I'm excited to "meet" Tyr since he'll be the first arctic in the "spotlight."
