Re: Contemplating Ori's color - Tamandua Colors

Ooh, that's exciting! That would be great to have a whole bunch of anteater colors. An albino sounds lovely.

Re: Darla my silver fox died

I'm sorry, Pat. :( It's so hard to lose any pet, but to lose one out of the blue is hard. I hope Donnie is okay. How does he seem to be coping?

Re: One or two?

It's also worth pointing out that the foxes may not get along and therefore may need to be kept separate. Carousel and Ifrit try to attack each other each time they pass by the bars of their enclosures at the same time. So if you have the setup to keep them separated then getting two would be okay. ...

Re: Quarantine for foxes?

I don't know much about the UK, but after importing any exotic it needs to go under quarantine for a long time. I don't know if you'd be able to see it in quarantine or not, but probably not. So if you're looking for a pet fox, the best would be to acquire one that's already in the UK, since by the ...

That form would be one of the documents you'd want to print out, yet. And then if there are additional city regulations you'd want those as well too.

Re: What do I do if this happens?

If the breeder you were getting your fox from was reputable, they'll give you the bill of sale at the time of the purchase. So when you go to pick your baby up. If for whatever reason they're not giving you one, refuse to buy unless they give you one because that would just be shady otherwise.

Re: How do I find out if a vet near me will look after a fox?

My vet is about 1.5 hours away from me, but my foxes do fine. If it's an emergency, I have a local vet willing to see them.

Re: What do I do if this happens?

Keep a copy of the city laws in your possession. And underline the places where it says it's okay or where it doesn't say otherwise. And then also the bill of sale is a big one. Keep a hold of veterinary records as well. You could have your fox microchipped if you're worried about someone claiming t...

Re: How do I find out if a vet near me will look after a fox?

I just called and asked. It's as easy as that, so not hard at all. I do find phone calls intimidating though, lol.

The clinic I take my pets to only treat exotics, so they're really experienced and are used to seeing red foxes come through.

Re: Newbie <3

They do smell, and even if you get used to the smell, your neighbors and guests won't. So yeah, that is definitely a con to owning a red fox is their odor--rather, the odor of their urine and feces. Having an outdoor enclosure is essential, and this is one of the many reasons why. I'm glad that you'...

Re: Hello :)

Hello, and welcome. It really depends on your personal preference which fox you get first. I personally would keep the different species separate. Sometimes arctics and reds get along, but other times a red can kill an arctic. So separate enclosures would be a must. As long as they all had their own...

Re: Hello Everyone

Hello, and welcome! And congrats on your decision to get yourself a little kit. When you're prepared for them, foxes are absolutely wonderful and make good pets. Knowing what to expect out of a fox is a big hurdle, and it sounds like you've been doing your research for quite some time. Do you know y...

Aw, too bad reptiles are out of the picture for now! They're amazing. I think foxes are great starter exotics. They are my starter exotic, and I'm in love with them. As long as you know what you're getting into and have everything prepared in advance, they're great. What species of fox are you inter...
