Re: Couch Chewing

Chewing is a very natural behavior for a fox. I think it would be very hard to discourage. Since it's a normal thing for them to do, there isn't too much you can do to stop it other than what Pat suggested. Most people with indoor foxes just deal with the furniture destruction which is why I persona...

Re: Ways to keep Arctic Foxes From Being Messy

Also, good on you for waiting to get a house. That's the responsible thing to do, and too many jump into it before they are ready. Thanks for thinking of the fox and waiting--even though I know it's hard.

Re: Ways to keep Arctic Foxes From Being Messy

It totally depends on your preference--though I prefer red foxes since that's what I've owned and been around most of the time. As long as you have the proper setup, and you raise your fox correctly, and you know what to realistically expect, your fox should be a joy to own. Research both species be...

Re: Adding a second fox to the family?

I've had bad experiences with foxes being introduced, although others have had success. My fox Carousel bullied Ifrit so much that Ifrit became a bully. Now Ifrit picks on everyone, even attacking foxes other than Fable. It's become a big issues. Ifrit used to be very friendly with other foxes, but ...

Re: Has anybody seen this deformity?

Did you post a picture? I would like to see what it looks like.

Sad that we're starting to see a growing number of deformities and issues in captive-bred. It's likely the genes, but sometimes it's diet-related too, like the backfeet mobility issues.

Re: 8 foot fence?

It is possible, but I would still have an enclosed top. My foxes can scale the side of their enclosure so fast. Once when Ifrit got scared she jumped onto the panels and climbed to the very tip top, and that was like 10' high. While I think it would stop a fox that is less active (like Fable) I woul...

This is Ifrit's sister that I brought out to Utah with me... I really, REALLY hope she is found. I would be devastated if this were me.

Re: Blue Fox?

If both his parents were arctic marble foxes, then that would make his coloring silver. 1/4 offspring would be silver, 1/2 offspring would be arctic marble, and 1/4 would be whites.

Maybe it's the lighting, but he looks more pearl-colored than silver to me though.

Re: How To Prevent Escapes

Another thing is DO NOT tie out your fox and leave it unattended! So many escapes happen when owners attach their fox's leash to a zipline and then leave it unsupervised. I think using a zipline is really cool, but you must be there the whole time and can't go inside for even a second.

Commented. This would hurt me considerably since I don't exhibit very often. Usually only a few times a month.

Re: How To Prevent Escapes

The number of escapes are ridiculous. I've written about it as a warning for first-time fox owners here before, but having more and more info about it could definitely help.
