Re: tail wagging coon

I'd say regulating it seems like a good idea. Mine would do this when meeting other new animals. It also included the bowing and slow, awkward movement to continue to turn and face the animal they are afraid of. It usually accompanies that growling and huffing sounds that they make too. They are suc...

Re: Risk of town creating ordinance after you move there?

Continuing with no luck thus far. I do have a sort of unrelated question about USDA. My area requires USDA licensing for certain species of animals that I want to get (such as foxes) but not for others, like skunks. What do you do if you try to get licensed and you already have an exotic (skunk) tha...

Re: Corso, the Crazed Suckler!

Hah, I don't remember, I'll have to go back and see if I can find it sometime. Maybe it is that, but looking at other people's coon photos, they look very different.

Re: My Raccoon Tanooki

Probably just picky for now. As an adult, especially a seasonally ravenous adult, he will be more interested in those other foods. Keep introducing them, especially vegetables. If they're used to getting just sweets and tasty stuff when young, they may never come around to eating healthier things.

Re: Any one buying a raccoon this year?

Try cutting the edge of the litter box down so he doesn't have to climb over it. Maybe try a bigger box as well. Rapidly changing litters may confuse him. That said, I had trouble litter training mine too but I wasn't terribly strict about it either. If he is going to be an outdoor coon all the time...

Re: Questions for other people owned by coons!?

To answer many questions, I would recommend this website: http://remocoon.mnsi.net/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; This person who made the site discusses keeping an intact raccoon in the house as a pet that came from the wild. It is very detailed and covers basics of about every top...

Re: tiny baby, no one nearby to help!!

Thank you for looking out for this little one! I know how incredibly stressful it can be to raise a baby animal on your own. I can't imagine the stress of doing it from only a few days of age! Are the photos on the bottom of the page rather recent? She does seem like she may be a bit small for her a...

Re: a few last minute prep questions

Taz, kinda sounds like the breeder you got your kits from was not very responsible. Most will not release a kit that is only 3 weeks old. On top of that, the kit was no longer receiving formula? Very sad that there are such breeders out there. For taurine, you can buy powdered supplements to add to ...

Re: Risk of town creating ordinance after you move there?

The house search is still on. Found one place that was legal and out of limits with a few acres but the foundation was bad and the house needed bulldozing. Blah. It's very hard to find a lower cost house with land in a legal area!

Re: Corso, the Crazed Suckler!

What a spoiled baby. You are an awesome raccoon mom! I'm rather impressed with your report of his litter box usage. It seems exceptional to me, but I may be wrong.

It does seem his whiskers are not growing in, along with his whole coat being very short :( Genetic biological issue maybe.

Re: Risk of town creating ordinance after you move there?

Oh man I've been so busy I forgot about this thread. Thanks for the responses all. I'm looking into moving into a house. The issue is finding houses that aren't out of my budget that are not in city limits (even tiny, tiny cities with a few hundred people or less). It seems most properties not in a ...

Re: My Raccoon Tanooki

So cute! Agreed with Ana, beautiful coat, and nice colors. I get tired of taking pictures and getting blurry blobs, so eventually I broke down and bought an entry level DSLR for about 500 dollars. Now I hardly use the thing. Go figure.

But anyway, faster shutter speed on the camera helps.

Re: Corso, the Crazed Suckler!

Thanks for posting more pictures! It looks like he's doing really well with you - no surprise there. They are so fun, aren't they? As for your desk, that flat spot along the ground may become a peeing zone. I didn't keep mine in the house all the time, only when younger, but they liked peeing on the...

Risk of town creating ordinance after you move there?

I'm researching housing so I can have my own place and keep exotics. Unfortunately, rural houses cost quite a bit more (as they often include more land) than houses in towns, so I've been looking at houses in very small towns (less than 1k people, sometimes less than 200). What's the risk of moving ...

I agree with Ash, I'd love to see photos. I don't think we have anyone else on the forum who has an Amber.
