Re: Baker's Yeast or Brewer's Yeast?

Que? I brew mead... I have found that bread yeast and brewer's yeast perform equally well (for mead and rum that is). However both are a live organism. Yeast eats sugar produces alcohol and off gases CO2 as waste products. Yeast dies or goes dormant from being baked, consuming all foods until the al...

Re: Pacific Northwest Areas/Laws

Piles of red tape for Idaho and Washington. As a private citizen both are pretty much out.

Re: How to convince someone to NOT get a fox?

Pour some fox pee on a towel, hit it with HOT water and hand it to the person. They will think twice about owning a fox.

Re: Oy

The only problem I've ever had with water bowls was first, spilling it; second peeing and deficating in them. I solved the first problem with a spilless bowl with a inward curved top that I got for my dog as a pup. The second was more or less resolved by putting the bowl on a narrow shelf slightly t...

Re: Possessive-Aggression

I have learned to give my pair two of everything unless it is large enough to accommodate both of them like a litter pool or a large dog sized water bowl. If the big guy gets shoved away from his food dish by the little gal he'll go for the other one or vice versa. My pair have been together since t...

First vist from a State Ag Inspector and Code Enforcement

The visit was unannounced and sprung on me while I was out of the house, but it went surprisingly well. Apparently the state office never bothered to inform the regional inspector that my facility existed until yesterday despite being the only one of its type in this half of the state. The inspector...

Re: How expensive is it to own a fox?

After the initial set up my feed costs for two foxes is about $360/yr. $78.25 was the last vet bill for shots but I have had bills as high as $200 for the two of them.

Re: Do most reds "happy pee?"

My female does occasionally. Although it is more common for her now to pick a spot and relieve herself right after she greets me instead of the messy flat on her belly wee with her swishing tail smeering it around that she used to do.

I can't recall my male showing that sort of behavior.

Decision point :(

I've had Foxy and Shadow for a year now and I love them to pieces. Sadly I find myself increasingly questioning my possession of them. :( The morning after Foxy lost her litter one my overseers called me into his office (paraphrased), informed me that there had been complaints that I stink and that ...

Re: A sad late birth

They were black furred and all. The front half of one was missing I assume one of them ate it. It actually strikes me as odd that it was cleanly instead of messy as I would have expected..

A sad late birth

Foxy had kits today. However it turned out badly. She's alright but the kits did not survive. The event caught me off-guard as she appeared to have a false pregnancy in February. I grew concerned when she would not leave her nest for dinner. I discovered her with one of the kits in a nest box, she h...

Re: Odor abatement advice

I think I broke the clerks mind by asking for a kiddie pool during a snow storm.

The problem does seem to be the area outside of the indoor enclosure and on my clothes. I thought I got a handle on the problem but Friday a coworker informed me that I stink.
