Re: Okay... What do they really smell like..

Normal people have described it as skunk, pot and "bad" to me.

Odor abatement advice

So my state approved plan consists of mopping the enclosure once a week with a bleach solution. However this seems to be insufficient. I'm looking for ways of improving the situation. A coworker complained that I had been sprayed a skunk today. This was was disheartening as I had just showered with ...

Re: Idaho - City Ordinance (Foxes)

Ugg... a year and two code enforcement officials later we now have a new guy doing the job. After a brief interview I can see trouble back on the horizon. I think I have a solid case for being compliant due to a loophole in local code "... unless permit has been granted by State or Federal agen...

Re: Foxes in different states...

My area is pretty mild year round. The river valley to the south never snows. The dead center of the state and along the Canadian border tend to get pretty good snows.

Re: Foxes in different states...

I hate the desert. That's why I don't live in one. ;)

North Idaho and southern Idaho are as different as day and night. The south is desert. North Idaho is green mountains and some beautiful lakes.

Re: Foxes in different states...

In Idaho there are a lot of catch-22's are far as foxes goes. It is kind of the wildwildwest inside the state, but importing is a headache. Large furfarms can import several thousand foxes here no questions asked, but if a sanctuary or small facility wants to import one or two foxes they throw ball ...

Re: Tiny Tracks and colors

A little late in on this, but according to my state department of Ag, I am only permitted to sell foxes, to fur farms, breeders, research facilities, fish & game (that runs into other problem areas regarding the state legal definitions of domestic/wildlife), et cetera within the state (in genera...

Re: Zones, Zoning Laws

Another point on foxes. Some jurisdictions may limit them to Agricultural Zones as they may fall under fur farm statues. Same with mink, raccoon, skunks, et cetera.

Re: potty in food/water

@dragonking There is an idea! They recently broke my bigger cat carrier (honestly they've outgrown it now any way). I'll see If the bow will fit in it. If so I'll get a tiedown strap for it tomorrow and try it on the shelf.

Hmm... come to think of It I should see if goodwill has a cat condo.

Re: potty in food/water

They are doing pretty good. They look to be fully grown and have finally darkened up a bit. They used to be soooo pale colored. I think it is a combo of better food and maturing. Still looking to get them better food without breaking the bank (current diet runs ~$1/day +treats). Shadow is still as s...

Re: potty in food/water

I can try putting the water dish on one of the shelves but I'm afraid they will knock it off as they like to push it around. It is rather disheartening to see the girl squat over the bowl just she was using the toilet right after cleaning it and bringing in fresh water. The boy seemed none to amused...

Re: A fox quiz for a potential fox owner.

Now that I'm thinking about it from another topic; I strongly recommend this book. It has been very helpful as both a primer and a reference for keeping foxes.

Re: Aggressive towards husband

The book "Management of the Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) in Captivity" discus this particular issue in their section on socializtion. If the fox was never really socialized with other foxes/adult foxes before coming into your care he may well think that you are his mate and expresses his full r...

Re: potty in food/water

They seem to have greatly reduced eliminating in the food bowl. However I think they were doing that because they were getting more food than they were actually eating.

Still having issues with the water.
