Will add this to the list but putting it here first so people know it's new but will eventually combine.

Jim Hammonds - THEMONKEYWHISPERER

Has sold sick imported fennecs as being domestically bred. He seems to have a bunch he's trying to sell.

Re: Any body from Florida?

Yes it's the law to euthanize and test any animal that bites that does not have an approved rabies vaccine for it. While other tests exist they are still not as accurate as a brain biopsy(because rabies is a weird nervous system disease) so they go with the most accurate by law. The only out for the...

Re: Anyone else worried about the new findings on grain-free food??

The chihuahua breeder I used to know that had chihuahua's that lived into their late 20's fed pedigree. Not the best food out there but obviously not super detrimental. Unfortunately I see peas are now part of their recipe. I just looked at a lot of old dog foods I used to like and they all have pea...

Re: Anyone else worried about the new findings on grain-free food??

Tomato is fine if it's all the same as what a human would eat. The same parts poisonous to us are poisonous to them(green parts). But the peas, beans and lentils could be a problem. Taurine has a calming effect on the system so when the system is low it will make the animal more anxious and or testy...

Re: Anyone else worried about the new findings on grain-free food??

No that's fine, maybe this is easier to find. I just wanted to point to our earlier discussion of it. It's important info. But I'm not worried really. I think the main this is to mostly avoid the ingredients listed and if doing home made make sure they get the right balance of organs and suck to get...

Re: Anyone else worried about the new findings on grain-free food??

Not really but I've always avoided using a food that uses a high amount of peas or lentils and didn't buy from companies that couldn'r supply a full nutritional break down.

Re: New Racoon Mom

Neither state allows them to be owned so no one will see them. If you can find a rehab that will take them and raise them for release that would be for the best. I found one in GA that does raccoons but not sure how near you: https://www.facebook.com/savwildliferescue/ If you keep them you risk thei...

Re: New York state is not legal for foxes(other than fennec)

Yeah, a person would have to ask the ag dept what is required with a fur farm permit to see if you could still get by, by not killing them and just selling other products from them. So breeding or exhibit as your reason for having them needs DEC license. Other agricultural reasons like "fur far...

Re: Nutrition - I think I want a Fennec Fox

Revisiting vitamin D. Since the subject just came up in regards to reds and I had to math. Here is what I'm doing for vitamin D. There's about 1.67 IU per gram of herring and 3.6 to 6.85 IU per gram of salmon. I'm giving my fennec one large square of freeze dried salmon a day. So I just weighed a bi...

Re: Raccoon with fleas

Had fleas here no matter what I did till I started using revolution. The fennec is allergic to fleas so I had to do something so finally made the change from frontline. I had a big wasp nest right by the front door. I realized I hadn't noticed them till then so figured they were no real threat. It w...

Re: Hi hi

I thought about getting one years ago but don't remember a ton. They are more insectivorus so while a little meat based food liek ferret food is sometimes given it should be a smaller part of the diet. You should get lots of insects and feed an insectivore kibble. Here's a couple care sheets https:/...

Adding the break down of retinol in whole prey here, using wet values rather than dry matter since that's how it is fed. Rabbit, domestic - 1,798 IU/kg Retinol Lizard, anolis - 1,708 IU/kg Chicken - 12,416 IU/kg Rat Neonatal, <10 g - 7,467 IU/kg Rat Adult or >50g - 12,223 IU/kg Adult Domestic Mouse ...
