Re: Arms vibrating hugging toy or my foot

Dewey was a humpin' bumpin' machine with his stuffies when he was younger, but now at 5, he rarely does this. It's harmless behavior, if directed at toys. No harm in allowing your bub to do this.

Re: 4.5 month old blind pet raccoon pacing in circles

What Trefoil said! My boys get about 1 TBS of Craisins twice/day. They love them, and no doubt are good for kidney/bladder health. Cranberries also pack both pre- and probiotics in them, are antioxidants, have minerals, vitamins and dietary fiber. The only drawback is sugar, but given all the pluses...

Re: First time raccoon parent

I'm not sure how difficult spaying or neutering one at 4-6 WEEKS would be, but I sure wouldn't consider doing that, even IF my vet would - which I don't think they would. Typically , altering is done on most animals between 4 months and up to one year, but usually falling into the 4-6 month range. I...

Re: Anal Gland issues

Update: I've begun feeding Bobby foods that will increase his fiber intake, and honestly, it seems to be helping. Yay! Just by adding a quarter of a banana per day, and a mix of banana, pumpkin and peanut butter (about 4 TBS of this mixture) each evening, his bum is now sparkling clean ('output' is ...

Re: First time raccoon parent

personally, I think male and female raccoons should be fixed by 6-8 weeks.

I think Pat had a typo here. Pretty sure she meant 6-8 MONTHS. :icon-wink:

Re: Need Advice for Raising a Raccoon

Having never had a female, I can't tell you if it's imperative to have her spayed. Others here will be able to tell you that better than I. But vaccinations - even if she doesn't go outside - are still necessary, both for her safety - and yours. Depending on where you live, you may or may not be abl...

Re: Anal Gland issues

Thanks for your response, Mary. After perusing the article you linked, I'm kind of worried about the quercetin... I think I'll just try the probiotics and pumpkin - IF he'll eat the pumpkin. I don't feed raw, so the Better Raw stuff that you offered wouldn't work for me. I've tried feeding raw to my...

Anal Gland issues

So Bobby seems to have issues with his anal glands. He had them expressed last year about this time, and he's been good since. Now, he's got smelly bum again and is rubbing it on anything he can - including my new white sneakers! Yuk!! Anyhow, I was on Chewy's a little bit ago, ordering some stuff f...

Re: wild fox question.

Running hot wires (ie electric fence) might help. You could also run another layer of fencing with smaller holes around your current fencing. Then the birds couldn't stick their heads through. Wouldn't have to be more than 18" in height. A decent chicken wire would work, and not be that expensi...

Re: My 7mth old Coon is coughing/gagging occasionally but getting more frequent, help?

Does she have all of her vaccinations? Is she indoor-only, or does she spend time outdoors? Have you checked her mouth/throat for any obstructions? Is she eating/drinking/pottying normal? Please explain what she has eaten in the past that made her sick. (ie food, or did she get into something like c...

Re: 4.5 month old blind pet raccoon pacing in circles

I guess I missed the part where she said the vet said it was a male. flufferluv, if you're on Facebook. look up Trouper and Friends. Trouper is a blind raccoon who is used as an ambassador for teaching people about wild animals. Miss Dot (Trouper's main caretaker) may be able to give you some ideas ...

Re: 4.5 month old blind pet raccoon pacing in circles

It really isn't all that hard to discern a male from a female. A male has a penis & sheath on his belly, about 2/3's of the way towards the back end, and a female doesn't. If you rub around in that area, even if you can't visually see it, you certainly would be able to feel it. Typically, the pe...

Re: Any body from Florida?

Sounds like everything went well for you and Yatzee. How is he feeling?

Yes, sadly, that IS how our political system works. I think a great start would be to outlaw lobbying/lobbyists. But - - - that'll NEVER happen, since so many in govt rely on that as additional 'income'. :-x

Re: Grapes

When in doubt, I often consult the AZA Diet Guidelines. Not saying they know everything, or can't make mistakes, but I feel a certain amount of confidence in their guidelines. Apparently, they are OK with grapes in a raccoon's diet.
