Re: Orphan - Warning Img Heavy!!!

Agree with Pat on age. Mine is going on 8 weeks and yours is just a bit smaller in the ears. Foster him til he's an adult and let him loose. I was successful in doing just that last summer, and my released foster is doing fabulously well in the great wilds. (Thanks, TrailCam!) Like you, I didn't get...

These were definitely grey fox. Not sure if he bred them to sell to the public or for a specific end, like a zoo or whatever. These are pics I snagged from his FB.

Re: Any one buying a raccoon this year?

TG - I get what you're saying now. (Re-read your earlier post) But then I still end up washing pee'd on towels anyhow - IF I don't use disposable stuff (and I'm very anti-disposable because of it going to landfills...) I have tried placing the urine soaked rags/towels over the litter in the litter b...

Re: Any one buying a raccoon this year?

Thanks, Ana - I'll give that a try!

And great to hear my lil stinker isn't abnormal. I've never had children, but I've often heard that toddlers can like 'riding' a person's hip when they're being held... Maybe this is similar to that?

Re: tiny baby, no one nearby to help!!

As they grow a bit older and seem not as satisfied with just milk replacer, besides what has been mentioned above, you can also add just about any Gerber baby food to the formula (typically I stick with fruits/veggies). I have also added plain yogurt and applesauce to formula to give it a bit more c...

Re: Any one buying a raccoon this year?

Actually, the smell isn't too bad. I usually change the towels/sheets and newspaper in his crate at the least every 2 days or so, so smell hasn't been an issue. What IS at issue is if he doesn't have a specific location to potty, when he's running around the house, he tends to pee wherever it please...

Re: Fox breeders in PA

Mike @ Keystone Exotics had 3 grey fox kits when we picked up our raccoon the other week. I won't declare this with 100% surety, but I >THINK< Mike bred these himself and did not get them from a dealer. However, if you want to be sure, call Mike and talk with him.

Re: Any one buying a raccoon this year?

Yes, he is definitely spoiled!! My husband chides me all the time about it, but I just cannot help myself! I'll grab a bag of the non-clumping this week when I grocery shop and try that. In the last 2 weeks, he's 'held' his poop until I take him for his outside walk and that's fine - as long as it's...

Re: Questions for other people owned by coons!?

My childhood experiences shaped my love, respect, and future interaction with coons. Totally agree that this is where my love for the raccoons came about, too. We had several over the years while I was a kid/teen, and I've always been a huge fan of them. Here are some pics of Melvin - our 'foster c...

Dewey cameo.jpg Dewey James and DonkyDonk.jpg Dewey at 7 weeks old He's is growing like a weed! Weaning him off formula slowly. He's enjoying grapes, bread mush, Gerber's baby foods, baby rice cereal and ... Frosted Mini Wheats - of all things... How he eats them with barely any teeth and such a sm...

Re: My Raccoon Tanooki

my brats won't eat banannas. I even tried putting syrup on it, and they just licked the syrup off  Our 'foster coon' would go through spells - sometimes he'd like bananas, other times not. I guess they're just like us: if they 'feel like' banana today, they'll eat it; if not, not! However, ou...

Re: Question about a breeder

This thread is very old, but I thought I'd chime in here in case someone in the future considers buying from Mike. We got our raccoon from him and yes, I'd recommend him. When I was looking for a breeder to purchase from, I called Mike. Fortunately, he had time to talk with me (was NOT baby season -...

Re: Corso, the Crazed Suckler!

Looks like your Corso and my Dewey are of about the same age, and he's always in need of entertainment. He spends very little time alone, but when he does, I'm going to give him the stuffed pillowcase thing - that should provide him hours of fun! Great idea! Thanks for sharing!

Re: Introducing Raccoon & Dog to each other

The prey drive is what bothers me. He's very aggressive with our livestock, which is OK because that's what he's bred to do and what we use him for, besides being our pet. He does "herd" the cats occasionally, but not by barking or snapping at them, more just interjecting himself into thei...
