Re: Armadillo's and leprosy info

Thanks for the info Mary. What I didn't see mentioned is- can an armadillo be treated so it doesn't carry leprosy? I've always wanted on. What kind of pet do they make?

Re: Male vs Female Pet Raccoon

I don't remember how Chloe was at that age. Oldtimers ya know. But I really think it depends more on their individual temperament and how their are raised than anything. It also makes a difference if they have other playmates. Both my coons are more house mates than pets, they come when called but o...

Neither of my babies are stranger friendly. They hide until the company leaves.

Re: Male vs Female Pet Raccoon

Chloe was fixed at around 6 months. She is seasonally standoffish-outright nasty. But she may have been a lot worse without neutering, I don't know because I've never had an adult intact female. When she's loving, she's very loving, but when she's not she can be a real treat. Not in the sense that s...

Re: No Go Zones

I tried using cayenne pepper to keep Chloe out of my fish tank, I think she appreciated the seasoning. I think you may have better luck asking on the back yard chickens forum, their problem is more similar to yours. The only way I can think of to keep coons out of a lion enclosure is either to use w...

Re: Male vs Female Pet Raccoon

My Chloe is spayed and she still gets seasonally cranky. Okay, she's cranky but seasonally gets worse, after almost 9 years, I've just accepted that its her and enjoy when she gets lovey. Her behavior sounds like Chloes'. The good news is that she'll be lovey for a while later on in the year.

Re: Corso.

meal worms don't smell. But you'll need a heated room for them. I raise them for my chickens but am down for the winter, I'll start back up in the summer. I never thought of giving them to the coons in any quantity, not sure why. If you google raising meal worms back yard chickens (BYC) has several ...

That's what I get for lying

While at TSC getting a 15 lb bag of taste of the wild for my babies, the friendly clerk asked me what kind of dog I had. I told her I had cooners, so then she gets all excited and starts asking me about what kind I had, redbone or something else, of course I totally had no idea what she was talking a...

Re: Bath time

I don't see anything wrong with giving them a bath or shower every now & then. Chloe used to help me take a bath and probably still would if she were up when I bathed. But I love the way they smell naturally, though for Chloe its usually tinged with whatever perfume she's gotten into lately. She...

Re: Tick paralysis - anyone have experience with rehab?

Thanks for the progress report. Have you had his blood tested to see if he's still carrying parasites or anything he shouldn't? It seems like a veterinary college would be interested enough to help with further treatment.

Re: Bath time

But you want to brush him, clip his nails & check his teeth from the time he's a baby. It makes life a lot easier and grooming is good for bonding. He probably will need to be bathed as a bottle baby, they sometimes get messy. I just used people shampoo. Be careful to warm and dry him afterwards.

I'm so sorry about Oscar. It doesn't help right now, but he had a good life with lots of friends, that's all anyone can ask for.
