Hi from Delaware!

Postby contessa20 » Sun Nov 25, 2012 7:16 pm

I've been a lurker here on the boards for quite a long time but finally decided to join in and introduce myself. I'm from Delaware, have been married 14 yrs. and have a 13 yr. old homeschooled son. I'm the animal lover of the family and have:

4 cats (Scout, Zooey, Shakespeare & Apollo)
2 rats (Rosalie, Aster)
1 bearded dragon (Mango)
1 rabbit (Chloe)
1 Betta fish (Theodore)
1 Russian Tortoise (Vladimir)

Nice to finally "meet" you all.
5 Cats (Scout, Shakespeare, Zooey, Apollo, Charlotte)
1 Rabbit (Harlow)
1 Hedgehog (Darwin)
1 Bearded Dragon (Mango)
1 Blue Tongue Skink (Dahlia)
2 Russian Tortoises (Vladimir & Ivan)
1 Leopard Gecko (Dobby)

One day I aspire to work with wolves.

Hello, and welcome! We're glad to have you officially here.

I would love to hear some about your bearded dragon. I really like reptiles a lot.

Are there any exotics you're interested?

I've had my bearded dragon, Mango, for 7 yrs. I bought him from a breeder in New Jersey as a hatchling. He is an orange colored Sandfire cross. He is the sweetest guy. I used to take him out lots of places with me on a harness, but since he's slowing down a bit with age, I've resigned to just leave him home. About two summers ago, I had him out with me for the day when I boss called and asked me to come in and fill out some paperwork. I walked in the office and somehow she didn't notice this huge 18" lizard on my shoulder. All of a sudden Mango leaped from my shoulder onto the table between us. She absolutely FREAKED. OUT. jumped up in the air and screamed. I thought that was pretty hilarious. I breed my own superworms and Dubia roaches for him to eat.

I love pretty much all animals, but I'm especially drawn to foxes, wolves, and cougars. I also love skunks and had the chance to hold one in a local pet store a few months ago. Occasionally I volunteer at a small zoo about 30 min. from me and get my exotic fix since it's not legal to own most exotics where I live. Delaware doesn't allow exotics (without a permit) and our homeowner's association is very strict about what animals are and are not allowed. I used to walk Mango around our neighborhood and people would come outside yelling, "OH MY GOSH LOOK AT THAT ORANGE IGUANA."
