Just realized I never posted here! Whoops

Postby kaylalk » Fri Dec 17, 2010 10:04 am

I'm Kayla! My interests are exotic animals, zoology, animal sciences, reading, photography and fashion!

I intend to get either a serval or a caracal. I wanted a fox for a long time but unfortunately there is no way around the law!

Nice to (formally) meet you all!

Unless she moves out of Canada it's not possible. There is a national import ban on foxes.

Yeah, no fox while I'm in Canada :(

I tried looking into every possible way that I could get one and there's just no way. I've been looking into maybe getting a caracal instead. I found a vet who deals with larger exotic cats here, and I know of a breeder in the US. They're legal here and I'd be on a waitlist for a year or more, so I'd have lots of time to prepare!

Hi kaylalk,

Welcome to the forum  .

I am so jealous that will be getting a Serval or a Caracal. How will you decide which one to get? Please when you get your baby post lots of picture's and stories.

Lastly what made you go from Fox to medium to small sized wild cat? I am just curious as well they do not seem to be that close together in "interest". I guess I mean if you had went from Fox to lets say Jackal I would have understood. But Fox to Serval or Caracal that just confuses my brain   .

Again welcome to the forum and thank you for answering my questions.

I have a love of all exotic animals. I always have. What I really want to work up to is the larger cats. Cougars, Lynx, Lions etc.

I intend to get a degree in Animal Sciences, as well as Zoology, and get as much experience with exotics as I can.

I researched the foxes for probably a year and decided that I really wanted one. It was actually foxalbiazuls videos that got me hooked. After I found this site and did a lot more research and read the stories about foxes I fell in love with how they are. My favorite part is how they like to steal things, and the way they act. They're aloof, playful, loyal and loving. What more could you want in a pet?

That's what drew me to the foxes!

As for caracals and servals, I've always loved cats. I love dogs too, but cats have always been my favorite! I love the exotic look of the servals. They're very cool animals. They're a good size, and from what I've been reading they are also very loyal, loving, and full of personality. I love the caracals because they are truly beautiful animals, and so majestic! I've been speaking with a caracal owner and he's had both servals and caracals and he loved them both.

I find exotic animals fascinating. I know everyone says getting an animal because it's cute or aesthetically pleasing is a bad idea, and I will admit it's part of the reason I want them, but it's not the entire reason. I love cats and dogs but I just want something different, and the bond between you and your animals that you guys talk about seems so amazing. I'd love to have a companion like that for years and years!

Hi and welcome! That would be very aweseome if you were able to have a caracal! They're beautiful--even though they don't have all the pretty coloring, their skeletal structure is pretty. I luv the tufts on their ears!

Before I do I'm actually going to head down to the states this summer to visit a caracal owner and see his baby! I am also going to see if I can visit the breeder he got his from and spend some hands on time with them! I'll take pictures when I go down :bear:
