Hi From the Piney Woods of East Tx
Hi everyone! So glad to have found this forum. I am raising my first baby coon Gumbo. He was given to me by a friend who found them in a nest after the mother was killed. :( I've had him for about 6 wks and I think he is probably close to 12 wks now. He has been so much fun. My local vet is going to neuter him for me. Any suggestions on the best age to do this?

Welcome, although I do not think it is legal to own a raccoon in Texas. I could be wrong though. If it is illegal I don't believe any vet would neuter it.

It's not legal. They are fur bearing animals which need a special license and is not given for pets.
But welcome anyway. He's young enough you could still find a rehab to send him to and allow him to go back to the wild.
Most vets probably don't even know all the laws about what's legal or not. I'm not sure about TX but most states do not require a vet to report illegal animals, even California repealed that, though it's always a risk as the vet could report if they want to.

Welcome! You could always raise him and release him yourself.
