Tried to give Selene a couple new toys to get her to sit still so i could get some pics of her.

Didn't help with the ball, she took off running around jumping up and down like a dork with it

The rope toy she wanted to eat so was able to get a few of those, lol

Hi Cindy,

Your dogs are amazing creatures. What percentage of wolf are they? Also I have noticed that exotic cat hybrid breeders say there cat is an F1 or F2 or F3 etc. Why do people who breed wolf hybrids or other wild domestic crosses just say high percentage or low percentage hybrid? I am just curious. Hope your not offend. Your dogs are awesome looking again  .

Wolf and dog are same species.

Feline hybrids you are mixing different species.

So it works differently. It's like mixing breeds. Like I've seen pups from a chihuahua mating a Sheppard. The pups looked mostly like Shepard smaller but lots bigger than chihuahuas. Not half and half.

Mixing species it's more stable in the results. You know it's basically half and half as the chromosome counts differ and you have half way between each parent like if one species is 52 and the other is 54 then the offspring are 53.

Sorry also meant to comment earlier as these are some great photos.

Thanks, both are 98%
As TamanduaGirl just explained we really do not consider them to be hybrids as wolves are the same species as dogs. Wolves are Canis lupus and dogs in 1993 were reclassified to Canis lupus familiarus. But we do still refer to the Filial Generation or F-Gen. For ex. My male Loki is a F1, pure wolf mother bred to a F1 96% male.

Towards the bottom of this website there is a write up on percentage vs. content, it explains all of why a lot of people with wolfdogs will say low, mid, or high content instead of percentage

Hi TamanduaGirl and Cindy23323,

Thank you both so much for the explanation. Now if they are the same species why are they considered a "wild hybrid" by some state laws? I mean they are the same species so why would it just not be considered something like a domestic dog breed to a "feral" dog? Or something to that affect.

Lastly how are they a "hybrid" if they are the same species? I though subsepcies breed together where not a hybrid. Just not a "pure" form of either subspecies.

Cindy23323 your website explanation was very good. Thank you  .

Yeah technically not a hybrid but a cross breed or cross subspecies.

As for the laws since when have they made sense ;)

And sorry if my answering questions not directed at me ever seems rude. It's a bad habit :red-face: Good thing part of my job is answering questions. And I realized no one complained but sometimes I feel like it's a bit rude of me.

I do not know why they were ever considered hybrids or still called it by some. The Savannah cats are a good ex. of a true hybrid. The F1 males can not reproduce. I believe the males are not fertie until they are what around f5's?
This is by no means the case at all with wolfdogs. F1 males can reproduce.

Beautiful beautiful pictures and beautiful beautiful creatures. I would give my left eye right now to be in the presence of those animals (wolves/wolf hybrids).

Wow, they're so beautiful Cindy! They look just like pure wolves --only an experimented eye could tell the slight difference

Happy wolves in lots of snow! Cute to see them happy. Here we had a whole entire week at -25 and - 30 degrees but with the wind the medias said it was "feeling like -41" at the coldest. Eeeek!
Hope no animals were lost outside in that cold...

Ugg, never been around cold like that. Our weather is strange here. The coldest right now was down around 26 and by Wed. its going to be in the 70's again.
