Marine Mammal Nutrition Pearls of Wisdom

Postby GrayWolf » Mon Oct 13, 2014 4:39 pm

Marine mammals, which include seals, whales, dolphins, and walruses, form a diverse group of 129 species that rely on the ocean for their existence. The tissues in a number of the more common species of fish fed to marine mammals contain thiaminase. Marine mammals fed frozen fish stored over 4–6 months should receive Vitamin E supplementation. Mackerel and tuna are known as scombroid fish and have a short shelf life, even when frozen at low temperatures.
