Seals

Postby prk22 » Wed Jan 31, 2007 11:44 pm

Alright, we all know how I like to ask about the odd ones...

Where do seals and sea lions sit on the exotic animal topic? Are they seen in trade and breeding?

no. Sea mammals are under national and international protection under treaties ect. Well you can't touch a wild one and don't know of any non-zoo breeders.

The one seal we have now (that is in her 30s and blind) came from a private home 15 years ago...and it just got me wondering today when I was at her exhibit of how that family even got a hold of her in PA

I seen them listed as possible pets before, but never actually heard of any in a private home.

I thought they were legal too... Hmm wonder how that person got ahold of them in PA. Maybe they found a baby seal and just took it in.

Where I live (UK, North East) there is a place called seal sands which is the home of around 100 seals. It would break my heart to think someone could steal a baby and claim it as a 'pet'.
