I double checked, the 18 inch on-center from the floor up is IF you place the outlets close to the floor.

Not sure if I have seen switch boxes with outlets holes, that would make for a cleaner look.

Do you hide any of the wires, or do anything to keep them from dangling?

My "counters" in here are actually free standing shelves and a desk so the wires can hang down behind where he can't go. The only cables he chewed were on the little desk next to the bed so I stick the laptop under and block off access to under it when I go to bed though he seems to have outgrown that. Then the only cable he can get at is the HDMI cable for the display but it's really thick heavy duty and he doesn't mess with it. A bigger fox with stronger teeth might though so then would put it away at night. One I do have pulled up and wrapped up with a tie so it doesn't dangle, due to it's location, for my clock.

I've seen switch/outlet combos before, they just aren't as commonly used.

I had a dumb moment; you create your own box outlet combo. I thought the combos were per-made.

Well yeah all the inner workings you add as you want but you can get switch and outlet cover plates rather than having two plates next to each other.

Yeah, I found a site that offers a lot of cover plate options. I will continue to refine my plans and research for items to reduce risk.

Thanks for all the input!
