No, I don't own a bear but some people here do and I'm sure they'll answer your questions.
I know there are still bears around in Europe and Russia, but wouldn't Malta be to warm for a bear? (Everyone, I know this might be a stupid question, but I always thought Bears (need to?) hibernate for certain months?
How cold does it get in Malta? From memory I don't think you have snow there?

Hi, I have a 17 yr. old Black Bear. We have had her for 7 yrs. We rescued her from some people who got her as a cub, put a dog collar on her and never changed it as she got older. I am a retired Vet nurse so had to sedate her to get it off as it was so imbedded in her neck you could see the raw flesh deep inside her neck. She also lived in the smallest grain bin there is with a little fencing about 2 ft. out circumference around the bin. She will give you "five" with her paw when asked to. I just love her. Her neck is totally healed up, her coat is very shiny, and she is fat and sassy like she should be.

HF, I checked out the sun bear on Google, what an amazing little creature. I love the mark on their chest. Sad that so little is known about them and they are an endangered species. :(
It says some are kept as pets, have you seen them in the US?

Only at a zoo. The Sloth bear is similar but fuzzier, you might find them interesting. If there are any in private hands they can not cross state lines if endangered but I've not seen any.

I know it's enforced, like lemurs can't cross state lines but they do let people own them.

I didn't know you had a black bear. or maybe I forgot you did.

sad about the previous owners. I get so very upset when I hear how some people neglect their animals.

Hi Pat. I have tried to load a picture of Jennifur on here but it keeps saying mine are too big - they are just the ordinary size of photos. I have downloaded them successfully on other websites. I am afraid I am ignorant on how to reduce them down so they will fit. I would love to show you pics of her and some of my other rescue family.

the pixels pictures need to reduced.

if you want, email it to me and I will adjust it.
sybil@sybilsden.com

I will send the reduced pictures back to you, so you can then post for the other members to see.

I look forward to seeing your little darling
