Cub Question?

Postby FOXman » Sat Apr 03, 2010 3:18 am

Hey Pat, are you planning on breeding Sybil and Benny? Or are they related or are they fixed? Just wondering....
When I see my future foxie for the first time, I'll know that it was worth the wait.

sybil and benny are not related, nor fixed.

I wish I would would have got benny fixed at a very young age.

benny is 8 years old and sybil is 9 years old.
so far, they have never had cubs.

on some research and conversations with other breeders.
I mentioned to the breeders that sybil has never had cubs.

some have told me:
a possiblity, is because they are fed through the winter months.
if bears are fed through the hibernation, chances are slimmer that they will have cubs. but, of course that is not fool proof either.

actually, when I heard that, I tried to figure that out.
the only thing I can think of of, by feeding them in hiberanation, that could throw their hormones off.

bears breed in the summer (june-july) but, if pregnant, everything is in a dormant state until around oct or nov. that is when the cubs actually develop. basically, no form takes place until then.

that is only my speculation about why sybil has not had cubs.

would like to hear from other bear owners thoughts on that..
