Pictures of Cloie this past summer 2010

Postby Pet lover » Sat Feb 05, 2011 6:00 pm

These are some pics of Cloie in summer of 2010.

Here are some pics of Cloie this past May.
I ended up giving Briar back to Doug & Mary because he really changed her attitude. Not long after I gave him back to them Tyler (their father) passed away, so it really helped Doug and Mary through it.
Cloie has been sleeping since Oct. so when she wakes up I will post some new pics of her.
Thanks, Heather

Your bear is beautiful! Is she a blackbear? I didn't know they could have patches of white. I love the pictures!

sorry to hear cloie and Briar didn't get along icon-sad

also, bummer about doug's male passing away icon-sad
what did he die from, do you know?

I was lucky with sybil and benny, they both bonded pretty quick,
well, as soon as benny got big enough where he wasn't afraid of sybil anymore.

some black bears have a white 'V" on their chest.

benny has one, which he is the brother of cloie.
sybil don't have any white on her.

I believe in the wild, some black bears will have white also, and some don't.

actually, there was an all white black bear found in the wild, the mother got hit by a car,
so, I think a zoo took in the white baby.

petlover,

how old was he, do you know?

I am thinking 20 years.
when I got benny, from doug's about 10 or 11 at that time.

so, benny is 9 this year. (geez, times flies)

meant to tell you cloie looks absolutely happy and beautiful.

I ended up giving Briar back to Doug & Mary because he really changed her attitude

what was her changes? just curious and of course still understand more about bears.

appreciate your updates..

I believe tyler was around 23. They always thought that Black Bears lived to be 35-40 yrs, but learned that was not so. They talked to a guy that worked with bears for years and found out they only live to be 20-25 yrs old. Not long after they learned that they lost Tyler. Sooo Sad.

Cloie got really aggressive with my husband, also any time i would have
Briar outside she would stomp and hiss at him. she would cry when i was out there with him like she wanted all of my attention. Yes you can say she is Spoiled. LOL

pet lover,

I knew the life span of a bear is about 20-25 years.
there was some that died at 18 years icon-sad

I know doug takes excellent care of his bears. I am sure the bear that died had a very good life..
but, not matter how old our animals are when they leave us, we still have a hard time accepting it. icon-sad

didn't you get briar as a cub?
how old was cloie when you got briar?
how did you introduce briar to cloie? (just curious and still trying to learn about bears)

I got benny when sybil was a year old. sybil took to him right away.
but, I have to wonder, if the reason was because sybil was use to playing with dogs, cows, llamas icon_confused.gif
or, if it is was her age. icon_confused.gif

keep me updated,
Thanks,

yes, I got Briar right around 10 weeks old. I meet Mary at the sale and picked him up. Cloie was 2 yrs old, she just turned 3 yrs old in Jan.
I had them in two pins side by side with fence between them so they could smell each other and get to know each other. I didn't put them in the same pin together because he was still to small, she could roll on him and hurt him. For some odd reason she just didn't like him at all, and he was afraid of her. I was really hoping it would work but even after a couple months nothing changed. I wanted her to have company is the reason I got him.

I wonder if the extra year old had anything to do with it icon_confused.gif

did cloie play with dogs when she was younger?

I can certainly understand about not putting briar with cloie when he was young.
I didn't put benny with sybil until he was about 6-8 months old(can't remember exact time)

I would think the introductory fence would have helped.

guess your little girl just wants all the attention

thanks for sharing that info, I find it interesting and educational.

pet lover,

another question: how big is cloie's water tub and how do you keep it clean?
I had some type of pool along time ago for sybil and benny.
but, this pool was suppose to be some type of industrial type.
not really a swimming pool, but looked like one.

it was suppose to be a lifetime guarantee, but, sybil and benny broke it in a few years.

hubby built them a small pond, but, they are afraid to go in, because they can't see the bottom, I guess.
its only 6f X4ft deep. but, at least they always have fresh water

they have a big pond started, but, having a hard time sealing in the water icon-sad
I am anxious to get it finished, I know they will love that. it will expand their pen even more.

sybil and benny come out of hibernation a lot more this year than the past years.

how is cloie doing with hibernation?

Pat,

Cloie LOVES all the attention she gets so maybe u r right.

Her pool is an industral 300 gal. tub, we bought it at TSC. She does real good with it. It is so fun watching her play in it. I have to clean it out at least once a week to keep it clean.

yes, Cloie played with the dogs when she was smaller.

she went in to hibernate in Oct. and I have only seen her out one time since. She is sleeping good. icon_biggin.gif
