Cuckoo family

Postby TexasYankee » Sun Jun 21, 2015 12:23 pm

So in thinking about how woodpeckers have parrot-like feet, I looked it up (the proper term ins "zygodactyl"), I realized it's actually more common than I'd thought. I thought it was just parrots and woodpeckers, but owls, osprey, some swifts, mousebirds, and cuckoos have it too.

I then ended up on the Wikipedia page for the cuckoo family, and it turns out that the drab-colored brood parasites I (and probably you) think of as "cuckoos" make up only one subfamily. Most members of the family are brightly-colored with normal nesting habits.

Does anybody know if any of these birds, such as malkohas, couas, coucals, and Neotropical ground cuckoos are kept as pets?
