Carefully planned Planned, assuming were not counting more common pocket pets like frogs. I got my past frog as a tadpole impulse buy from a little rural pet store in high school, so may have been wild harvested.

I don't count the snakes, but even the two I got before my first fox were planned for way in advance. I prepared for Fable for over a year since I remember that at the time I was definite about getting a fox they were already available. The wait paid off.

Don't know if it counts as an exotic, but when I was 7 years old my parents impulse bought me 2 ferrets for my birthday.

I had to work extremely hard to be able to keep them, my family didn't realize how much of a commitment they were. icon_confused.gif
5 Dogs, 2 cats, 2 leopard geckos, 1 guinea pig, 1 axolotl, and a coatimundi currently in my family. :)

Exotic "wishlist": red fox, arctic fox, gray fox, bat eared fox, fennec fox, mink, muntjac deer, owl (any species).

Do parrots count? I was twelve, did research for almost a year before.
My main interest is in parrots, dogs, toothed whales and snakes.
Future animals I want to have when we have land are camels, wolfdogs/wolves, coyotes or jackals, striped hyena or aardwolf. Also poultry, rabbits water buffalo and/or yak for livestock.

I count parrots. And yeah, I did research and begged my parents. First for parrots at all (they bought me a budgie and later two lovebirds for my birthday), then for a Senegal parrot (adopted), then for a gold-capped conure (we bought a sun conure with a gold-cap-like personality from a woman who knew us and was downsizing her personal collection after medical issues left her with too many birds to care for). After that, I was satisfied, since the sun conure and the Senegal filled different pet needs for me (the sun conure was snuggly, while the Senegal was playful).
