Ohio Dog Deaths

Postby vulpini » Thu Dec 01, 2016 2:44 pm

Just a forewarning--you may find the contents of this post disturbing, as they concern the shooting of a man's two dogs and link to news sites that show pictures.

I'm sure you guys have heard the news stories this past week >> http://www.wsbtv.com/news/hunter-facing ... /471793449 << about the two dogs in Ohio that were shot by a hunter from his tree stand after escaping from their yard. Now, don't get me wrong. This man is an absolutely disgusting individual, in my opinion, who shows no remorse for his actions. According to >>THIS<< source, the dogs were shot because they were running under his tree stand. Not threatening him in any way, but just annoying him. He allegedly went on to post "'Shot 2 stupid dogs that got off their leash it was a clean kill now leave me alone please.'” which is abhorrent in and of itself.

Yes, I think this is terrible, but I find a few things a little fishy about this story. I can't find the Facebook post now, but after the incident the dog's owners took a selfie with the man who killed his dogs, and apparently in the past appeared on one of those TV court case episodes where he was being prosecuted for...shooting at his neighbor's dogs. I don't know what to make of all this. The man who owned the dogs took photos of them after they were shot, which I understand for legal documentation purposes, but he then went on to post those gruesome photos on his Facebook, an action that I find just a little odd. You guys will probably be able to find more information on this than I could, but thought I'd get everyone's opinions.

On a side note, is it...well, not a common thing, per say, but do hunters shoot dogs that annoy their game? Or is this just a one-time thing?

I'm probably just missing the obvious, but I can't figure out how to edit my post above so I'll post the update here.

I found this 'hunter's' Facebook page and it's worse than I remember. His personal attacks keep me from believing it was an accident at all https://www.facebook.com/ChedesterHunte ... cation=ufi

It's the real page because its posts predate the dog incident. The screenshots linked are ones I took from this page.

Screenshot of his (in poor taste) admittance of guilt: http://image.prntscr.com/image/2531fd56 ... 9e405e.png

Screenshot where he doesn't seem to feel bad about shooting the dogs: http://image.prntscr.com/image/ca5c0541 ... e7b903.png

Screenshot of his claims that people in the 'hunting and outdoorsman' community support him: http://image.prntscr.com/image/d5aec97b ... 8f3842.png

Screenshot where he provides a vague explanation for what happened: http://image.prntscr.com/image/4720c4b5 ... 6683d5.png

Screenshot where he gives the collective Conservative and hunting community a bad name http://image.prntscr.com/image/cc137437 ... 68ef12.png

Screenshot of his "fans" who are obviously from a stock photo: http://image.prntscr.com/image/fa6f1c13 ... a8db5e.png

And here's where it gets REALLY interesting. After admitting his own guilt, he drags up this old TV episode....where the two dogs' owner is accused of shooting at his neighbors dogs! He then tries to use this as proof that the owner killed his own dogs, even though he's already admitted to it. http://image.prntscr.com/image/6d92a803 ... 4d8b89.png http://www.hotbench.tv/shot-the-pit-bulls

That ^ is what makes the whole story fishy to me. Was it some sort of sick publicity stunt? He claims this will jumpstart his career...http://image.prntscr.com/image/4ec756f7 ... 59eb07.png ...and the dogs' owner clearly seems like someone who has experience with shooting at things for publicity.....I just can't fathom someone doing that to their own dogs...

It's fishy, and I find the owner's stories hard to believe too. Maybe in the owner's eyes it's okay to shoot someone else's dog, but heaven forbid it be his own. In which case, he really shouldn't be complaining at all.

Either way it's sad though, and I feel bad for the dogs. I'm never saying it is "okay" to shoot someone's dog, but I can understand the hunter being really upset if they were bothering the game. Again, not saying it's okay, just saying I see where the situation could cause him to be angry.

I feel like it's similar to the vet that shot the neighbor's cat with an arrow this past year--but that was worse because she was a VET for crying out loud with easy connections to animal control, had a thorough understanding of ethics (well, should have). So I feel as though the vet situation was worse than this one.

In most places it's legal to shoot loose dogs who are worrying your livestock but the wild game is not livestock even if it was on private property. I don't know what to say about the rest but the authorities are looking into it.
