Topeka May 2014

Postby broski1984 » Tue Apr 15, 2014 12:33 am

Hey, it's me again.

It seems I make this thread for almost every sale - and it never goes that well - but here I am again, haha.

Anyway, is anyone coming for the 2014 Topeka, Indiana May sale? Anyone need any prices checked?

I plan on cataloging the sale of all mammals/exotics (at least, the ones I'm there for; I miss some when I get up to look at things) for my personal records, so if anyone needs any prices I can grab them. I won't be doing the farm bird and rabbit part, as I usually miss most of it moving around.

I'd be interested to hear what they have there, and I'm sure many others would too.

I'll make sure to check back in afterwards, then. Topeka's a grab bag, in that some years there are a lot of exotics - and others there are hardly any. Typically there are lots of parrots, a lemur or two, a coatimundi, a few kinkajou, and at least one camel, with most the rest being petstore and farm animals - but some years have more surprises.

I've been there for four sales (this one will be my fifth), and I have only ever seen one raccoon, which was both albino and a bottle baby. I believe they only allow the sale of young raccoons (although they'll take adult skunks), and I don't think they're all that popular in my area. They get a lot of skunks and foxes, though.

Raccoons should only be purchased when young, better on the bottle.

broski1984,
if I am not too late with this question, but, if you do see any raccoon breeders from Ohio, could you please get their
name and info for me.

Nope, not too late at all! I'll let you know if I see any, and I'll ask a friend of mine who works there.

I'll see what he knows of. He may only know breeders in Indiana, however.

I talked to the breeder in Indiana that sells raccoons. (I got my larry (died in july) and wanted to get another one from her,
but, she said, she can't sell out of Indiania now, because she no longer has he U.S.D.A icon-sad

TT is from Indiana, but, they now decided they will not sell raccoons to PA residents
I have a Propagation permit, which allows me to buy wherever I want to. but, without the prop permit,
anyone that wants a raccoon, or most other animals, must be bought in PA...

I'll see what he knows of. He may only know breeders in Indiana, however.

thank you, I appreciate it..

Have you talked to Dave? Maybe he would make an exception for you long as you show him proof of your permit.

Ah, I wasn't aware of that restriction. I should of guessed though, for when I lived in Michigan I remember being told not to get skunks/raccoons from Indiana, despite living practically in Indiana (right on the boarder).

I don't understand why. TT only has a couple states listed on his site that he won't sell to.
I know in PA, people can buy a raccoon with a bill of sale if bought in PA.
but, I have a prop permit, which entitles me buy wherever I want too.

maybe it has something to do with importing. I think MI don't allow buying any animal from another state.
