That sucks. I don't know how the American ESA protects wild animal populations by restricting captive population that has no effect on wild animals. It seems like a pretty stupid part of the law :icon-frown:. Bureaucracy at its worst.

You brought up another issue that I've been thinking about: Every primate population in the USA is bottle necked because of the CDC embargo. Eventually the bloodlines are going to run out. If the american trade in primates is to continue, we would need fresh blood. And, this may happen. Apparently, at some point the New England Regional Primate Research Center disposed of 151 Cotton top tamarins through the pet trade. These monkeys were genetically unrelated to any bloodline in the commercial trade, because they were part of a lab colony


Hopefully more new breeding animals make their way to the trade. It may be the only way to ensure the long term survival of pet monkeys in the USA.

Agreed. The ESA hurts more than it helps, in my opinion.
3 red fox, 4 pectinata iguanas, nile monitor, BW tegu, sailfin dragon, leachie gecko, 6 snakes, salamander, 3 tarantulas
