Mouse Deer

Postby BlueBaby1023 » Mon Feb 24, 2014 1:57 am

Just going over my Nutrition notes for my midterm tomorrow, I stumbled across this species of deer. We were talking about them in the context of the smallest living ruminants, and I thought it was impossibly tiny. Does anyone know much about them? I'm not much a deer person, but the idea of a deer the size of my hand sounds absolutely adorable.

These pictures are from google, and are not mine! :)

Awww, cute. You're doing nutrition? That's cool. I did a bunch of nutrition courses as part of my degree. Ruminants are so fascinating.

Those are the cutest things ever! :) I absolutely love those. I really like dikdiks, but those are 10X cuter, I think!

Veralidane: Yea, it was my second nutrition course. My university offers more (like specialized ruminant nutrition, equine nutrition, cat/dog nutrition, monogastric ie. poultry and swine nutrition, etc.), but I don't have the time to take them as I'm graduating at the end of this quarter. :)

Ash: I've always thought that Muntjac's looked cool, but I definitely think that these guys are way cuter. From what I've gathered, they are legal to own here so I wonder if someone would import them...

Wow, they are tiny, their legs look like toothpicks. I can just see someone with a herd of those running around their house.

Me? Maybe?

But yes, they are teensy. The smallest species weighs about 2lbs fully grown. The largest, about 15lbs. So in between the sizes of a guinea pig and a house cat. That seems so tiny for a ruminant!

Can you imagine when guests came over if you had a small indoor herd, lol? All these little deer-things just bouncing around!

Ash: Something akin to this but with deer instead of goats?
