sarah.. the not so micro mini pig...lol

Postby dinnka » Tue Jun 01, 2010 7:28 pm

here are pics of sarah taken the other day..she is not so micro mini..lol.. i have her at 2 cups of mini pig food in the morning and fruit and vegies and 1 cup mini pig food in evening.. and she wont stop growing.. I honestly think she has a supressed gene of the reg size pigs before they began breeding them as micro mini because her brother is half her size.. oh well i love her anyway.. she is so smart and so spoiled.. and she sits so well when you tell her to

Oh my god I truly cannot believe how big she is. :piggy: I guess there are no guarantees when it comes to critters! That was the first litter they produced. Havent let them have any babies since. I gotta post updated pics of her bro. He is way smaller then half her size and he isnt skinny! I guess I made the right choice on which one to keep for breeding! She looks to be the same size as the dad, except being a boar he doesnt have fat, all muscle.

Here is sarahs dad, littermate, and a flemish giant rabbit, taken about a month ago

Breeding her might help her lose weight, and use up some of that energy. Nursing a litter can really help with weight.

Oh my, I reckon you have to check either your food or your soil - there is something which makes your animals grow - look at the size of that rabbit!! "monkshock: (giant or not)

But she is adorable. I love her white bristles. How heavy do you think she is?

I know there is no guarentee with critters, I love her just the same.. she is very spoiled little girl!! I would reckon her wt to be at least 75 pounds.. I cant budge her anymore when trying to pick her up.. I dont want to breed her, if she was real small like she was suppose to have been then i would but i dont want to pass on a gene that she may have that may go as far ack as when they started breeding them for mini.. am i making sense?
one question i do have is her ears are ALWAYS GROSS on the inside.. i sit and clean them all the time but i can easily go through 15 qtips per ear just in the immediate inner ear, not canal..any ideas tif? :piggy:

Yeah they do have gross ears. I assumed it was from living outside. Mine dont seem bothered by it and certainly wouldnt let me clean them. If you have it, you can give an ivermectin injection in the neck just to rule out mites. She should be wormed anyways in the spring. They are terribly prone to mites.

definately use ivermectin injectable. not oral. Pig worms are resistent to many things, strongid doesnt usually work anymore. the ivermectin will kill worms and mites. I have used promeris on my pigs before, it killa and repels ticks AND mites. Its kind of expensive. Sevin dust could work too. Im not real sure because I dont have ticks here.
I think she looks alot bigger then 75 pounds but hard to tell as you know. her dad is about 70 and he is lean.

An injection for mites...do they make that for dogs? Never had it happen to mine but that sounds like a great preventive thing.

Call me crazy but she doesnt look huge, just pudgy. Could be the camara angle. She looks the same size as dad. Do you think she is still growing?
