Rugose Stag Beetle

Just had one of these things flying around my room. The photo I tried to take didn't work out so taken from the web. I caught him with a shirt when he landed on the anteater climb wood. Must have come in with the anteater claw wood. Set him outside, it's been pretty warm so he should be fine.

What a cool beetle. How big was he?

About the size of a superworm beetle so not very big but they are neat looking.

I heard that stag beetles and rhinoceros beetles are illegal to import and keep in the US. Why are they banned?

I know people use them to fight and therefore gamble in some countries. Maybe that's why. Though, this is a native species to North America.

They are very strict about insects being imported and crossing state lines due to invasion risk.
