Louisiana State Vet school

Postby Bayoubimbo » Sun Apr 08, 2018 5:23 pm

 we bought our home in August 2015. 1 year later without warning the flood hit us. My husband took the kids out, I had been hurt by a horse in the water. We spent the next 3 days making sure all animals were fine. No animals were in the water except the horses they stood in 6" for 5 hours, being checked on, thrown more hay and treating a scrape on my bay filly. Our son was 11 and our daughter 19, our youngest had an infection in his leg. We made arrangements for everything, we couldn't take any of our animals out. LSART and AWS was checking on everything. My neighbor called LSU and gave them every animal except the horses. Dogs were given away, we recovered 1, the other the rescuer refused to give up, my son's 10 week old pit. LSU killed most of our animals, they castrated our mini boar and broke his jaws to take his tusks, he died from It. Our sow was kept by them for weeks longer and I feel they kept the piglets. My Rheas, my sons rats, chickens, ducks, parakeet (died 24 hours after we got him home), my cat (killed). The rats went from 18 to 65, they threw them all in a rubbermaid tote. We have no recourse, I was escorted off the site after threatening to throat punch the vets, by sheriff's and security.
Our home was broken into by LSU vets, house was looted, horses were stolen. I bring this up because of the incident in Florida. Our losses were $250,000, house rebuilt, then burned down. Everyone who could labeled themselves as rescues, they took what they wanted and threatened the owners. Police here are useless.

That's horrible. I'm sorry you had such a bad experience.

The flood hit our home too. I had to leave all the pets (other than the pit) behind, including the cats (put my fish and reptiles up on my loft bed and opened up the attic for the cats to climb into). I begged my parents to call a rescue to get them out of the house, but they believed they'd be fine. Fortunately, the water only got a foot in height, but this makes me wonder what would have happened to my animals if someone did take them in. People can be so vile sometimes. I'm really sorry this happened to you.

(Edit;; I didn't call a rescue myself as I wasn't exactly sure who to call, and plus my parents convinced me that they'd be fine so I stopped worrying about it (slightly).)

Sadly there are a lot of stories like this. Like the rescues just decide since you didn't take them with you, you must be a bad owner, but there are tons of other reasons a person might not have gotten their animals out.

It's like all those dog rescues that go in and save dogs during natural disasters. Instead of locating the original owner, they sell them as rescues. They don't even wait. Really upsetting to me.
