Are you a member of the phoenix site? Someone from there wrote that a sanctuary in Florida was getting an influx of "exotic" pets from people that were being foreclosed. They specifically mentioned coons and several others, so they may have dillos as well.

That was so long ago. fish would be okay long as you remover all bones or give canned fish as treats like sardines in water, but not to often. I don't think I ever did use fish. I first wrote that before I even had one and made edits over time, fish is a good high protein source and should be fine for a dillo. I have used shrimp, they are the insects of the sea :)

You should be able to find a vet at least willing to do a health cert even if they've not treated dillos but ideally that would be good if they have. You could try calling the importers and see which vets they use, they get them in then ship to other states, but they might not want to say. There should be a lot of exotic vets in FL.

My state actually has the requirement the vet has to call during the exam. Crazy state.

You can try to find the info your self for the states you are traveling through. Look at their online codes, if search-able you can search for exotic and wildlife and animals and see if they have an allowance for people traveling through the state, if they do you can print that out and take it along just in case. Also look on the sate ag and wildlife sites. My state lists their import requirements(not exactly the same as passing through requirements) but still might find the info you need there.

Okay thank you. The sites are all very confusing... none of the people really seem to want to give me give me the time of day. I'm starting to feel a little discouraged...

Armadillo

I live in Florida. I have a friend who might be able to help you. She is always trapping and removing armadillos from her yard. She usually releases them down the road but I can ask her if she would be willing to hold one for you if you are still interested.

Absolutely! I'm still working on the permit to be able to transport them over border. If you could ask her for me I'll let you know when I'm making my way down there, it will probably be a few months. I would prefer a young one (weaned) if at all possible. They should a be born soon and then wean at 2-4 months.
Thank You!

Nope I'll be going down there the end of July when the babies are being weaned. Why do you want me to bring one for you too? :D

Oh yeah! I was hoping to get a newly weaned one but at this point I'll be happy just to bring one home regardless of the age :D

listed where? I got all my permits and now am just wating to go. It's gonna cost me about $600 for the trip, health certificates, and vet exams. This isn't counting what I have already invested in supplies and I still have to build it an outdoor play area (cost about $125). The expenses have been planned for two armadillos, just in case.
