He's missing the tip of his tail a notch from his ear but hay life is hard out there. He's got it made now.

If his eyes look weird, it's white tears, like the cleaning tears guinea pigs get. Pua sometimes gets that when she's just gotten up or if stressed. It shouldn't be a problem.

He had some ants at the airport and sipped a little food last night then went to bed and is still sleeping I'll try waking him a bit later and see if he'll eat some more.

He is so cool!
When I see my future foxie for the first time, I'll know that it was worth the wait.

Thanks. His eyes are clear today but he's still sleeping only reacted when I jostled him and sniffed the offered food. I'm sure he's just tired though. It's a long flight from Florida then a 3 hour drive from the airport.

He's got a mask of black fur around his eyes too. Makes it look like he's wearing heavy mascara, lol.

Oh he just got up.

Well he just got a sip of food then the heater next to the cage came on and disturbed him though didn't seem to scare him. He just sniffed the air and then decided to go pee in the dirt box. He was heading back up the cage so I came over and said hi. He gave me a look and turned and went the back way into his hammock. Oh well, maybe Pua will tell him I'm good people, once she decides he's good people. Last night she just sniffed the air a lot but wouldn't come down from her castle.

Oh yeah, he's vested. They haven't been able to import them for 7 years or so. My importer managed to and so far he's the only one though he did say a few were going to Europe.

Hi TamanduaGirl,

I love your new Tamandua. May I ask the importer you got him from? I am guessing your trying to breed Pua with the new male? How does one even go about trying to breed a Tamandua? What exactly does a Tamandua eat? What type of "health concerns" does a Tamandua have? Lastly why did you want a Tamandua in the first place? I mean that is not a common exotic pet.

Also I was looking around on your website. I love the picture of Jake the cat and Pua. Do they normally get along? I would not imagine you would want to leave Pua alone with a cat. Since I am guessing a cat could easily injure a Tamandua. I could be wrong though :red-face:.

Keep the photo's coming.

I'm so happy for you and Pua that it finally worked out! Have you picked a name for him yet? What does Pua think of it all?

He's been named Eldorado - http://www.livingwithanteaters.com/2010 ... orado.html

I have a FAQ on the page if you look at the top links. I also have a care sheet http://hubpages.com/hub/Anteater-Care-Sheet. We use the beef diet on there. I left the others for reference but need to remove them as people get confused. Not that I mind answering questions but most of the info you want is there already.

You just let nature take it's course for breeding but it takes them awhile to warm up to each other.

Pua gets along with the other animals. She just ignores or avoids them. If push came to shove she could easily kill the cat with her claws but she prefers not to fight.

He does have nice fur. He's fairly mellow. First weight was 10.5 pounds and is now 13 but should be 17-19 pounds so he sleeps a lot. He was more active the first week mostly due to adrenaline I think.

About Pua but there's some Eldorado at the end and about trying to get her to like him.

Well after the first few days he's just been sleeping and eating. I think he was just running on adrenaline at first.

He did go up from 10 pounds to 13 but didn't gain any last week as he got loose poop. Vet found a pin-worm so he was wormed again and now had a perfect poop last night. So he should start gaining again. He's gotten a little perkier and thankfully he's been eating great all along except the first night of loose poop.

It's amazing how spot on you are with him, watching his poo and finding out about the worms. He's lucky to have you!
