Frozen soft furred mice as feeders

Postby TamanduaGirl » Sun Mar 25, 2018 11:10 pm

African mice but it's UK https://www.reptilecentre.com/frozen-mu ... 813397.htm

We need this in the US also for the breeder to feed them low vitamin A foods to keep their retinol down instead of typical commercial rodent food.

They're illegal in some states, probably even dead ones. For example, African Soft Furs are not legal in Utah.

But they're also the best chow for ball pythons.

I'd be surprised if dead ones were a problem but yeah bans would make raising them a problem for sure. Would be super convenient if a shop sold African rodents frozen for food here as well but this one in the UK is the only one I found. Still super expensive by weight but would be nice occasional snacks.

There are frozen ASF available in the states. Some of the online retailers have them. Example https://perfectprey.com/shop/african-soft-fur-rats-large/

You'll find ads in reptile classifieds as well. Check the vendor lists of herp expos for potential sources.

Thanks. That price isn't too bad though the shipping might be if I weren't also ordering chicks from them or something but will keep them in mind for future. I'd also like to try some frozen anoles at some point.
