Wolf or coyote?

Postby Alynn » Sun Mar 10, 2013 8:58 pm

My local newspaper (well, it's published in the next county an hour away, but still, my boyfriend lives there) posted this on their FB wall:
"A wolf crosses the ice on Vandercook Lake last weekend, an image from our Photos of the Week gallery."

And, as far as I know, there aren't may wolves down here in Southernmost part of the lower peninsula here in Michigan. I think it's a coyote, but I can't really tell. Anyone care to help me?

Even from far away, the muzzle and the the general body shape look coyote-ish to me.

To be completely honest my own father called me downstairs the other morning to see the "wolf" outside. A woman in my line at the pet store the other day claims she feeds a "wolf" among other wildlife in her backyard. Apparently coyotes are easily mistaken for wolves in my area!
