Eye and hips are good to test for.

True, hips are always good to check. Patella luxation is more common in little dogs but hips can happen too. Hyzzie has always had skipping and an off gate in back from hips. Quasi always had the knees going on though.

Listen for any signs of a heart murmur as it's a common issue in small breeds though often doesn't become audible till several years old. Not sure if any tests could find a valve defect early.

Thanks guys.
I was thinking it would be good to get her hip score done as full size huskies need that so thanks for reminding me.

I am not sure what they can check for with her heart, I mean with humans we generally have allot more available to us in the way of tests but the breed club says it's a must so shall be talking with my vet about it.

Piglett was outside too but he was rolling in the snow so got no good photos of him. He was to busy making 'snow Pigs' hehe. Mangrel was also too busy being way to fast for the camera.

I just noticed the health testing question.
Klee Kai don't need hips checked, but patellas. Also thyroid, eyes, and heart.
Eyes are usually done by a certified othamologist and heart usually just needs auscultated by a cardiologist. Some breeds need a full echo but not yours. Granted this is all through ofa and not sure what database is used where you are. I think any country can use http://www.offa.org

Thanks for the info LG.
I was going to get her hips checked as some AKK have started to get hip problems so I thought it would be wise to.
All the breeders gave me different lists and it just worries me I will miss something. I will go with the ones you said and just add hips on I think.

In small dogs the test is for legg-perthes disease. I probably spelled that wrong. Its basically small breed hip displaysia.

We finally got our baby boy!

Postby Elina » Thu Feb 20, 2014 1:26 pm

On December 24th 2013 we FINALLY added our male Alaskan klee kai to our family.
This had been a long road for us. There were so many dogs that we almost got but that then had one or other issues which prevented us be it the dog having no papers, turning out not to be breed/show quality, less reputable breeders letting us down, poor Lyric having to have her emergency spay but most commonly our problem was males having no "family jewels" or "not winning the ball game" as the breeders put it.

Jäger had none of the above problems. He has everything and is everything I could ever want in a little boy for Dilly so when I was chosen from a long list of people to have him I was beyond over joyed!
He arrived to us from California on Christmas eve. Audrey had literally no idea! Mr Elina had managed to concoct a tale about having to go to Heathrow airport as one of his Christmas presents for me had not arrived and as it was a giant Eeyore plush he had to collect it in person from the airport. . . . Now in a normal family driving to the airport to collect a bear may seem mad, more mad still that a 28yr old wanted some giant Eeyore but somehow he made it believable and I think it was because Mr Elina himself was so very overjoyed.

So off in the car we went. Audrey believed she was meant to be keeping this Eeyore a secret from me and that her and Mr Elina were actually the ones with this big secret. . .

When we got to the Animal arrivals center Mr Elina told her that with it being Christmas eve this was where all the packages had been sent so when they came out with a Klee Kai puppy you should have seen her face! She burst out crying as she could not contain her joy that she finally had HER AKK.

So here are the two of them on the day Jäger arrived and then last weekend. He has grown SO much!!

You on your OH are so funny! It must have been hard keeping a straight face when telling Audrey you guys were getting an Eeyore plushie. I can just imagine how excited a little girl would be when a cute little puppy is brought to you. It must have been such a great moment for all of you guys.

Jager is such a handsome boy. All that waiting has really paid off. I usually think young puppies look kind of strange, but Jager is adorable. He is very charming in the pics. ;)
