Rax was older too, and we don't have the money to know the true cause. He had eaten a bunch of eggs before he passed, which seemed to make him worse, but a friend of ours who is a vet said she doubted that was the the true cause of his sickness.

Our dogs are still in mourning for him. They react differently. Cedar gets really anxious, Kitty started trying to eat anything she could possibly find, and Epsilon actually seemed to get calmer, probably because he wasn't worried about having to protect Rax. I'm sure all your animals will go through their own mourning, but with each other and you they can all make it through.

Praying for you and your family!

Thank you GitaBooks. he is now pain free.

I know what you mean about not having the money to find out the cause of their death. but, we do know, their life span is too short icon-sad
I doubt the eggs caused Rax's death. when animals get older, they seem to get sick and many times we don't know the exact illness.

I believe most animals have another sense than us humans don't. they seem to know when their furry friend is sick, and close to dying.
They do mourn. I went through that with some of my animals. one of my dogs was in a bad depression for 5 months. I took her to the vet,
and the vet said there was nothing wrong with her, she is just mourning over the loss of her buddy.

poor george lost 3 of his raccoon buddies and now Daryl icon-sad it is hard for us to see our animals so sad.

yes, I agree with you, it just takes time for them to adjust. just like people. we never forget, but the pain gets easier as time goes on.

Thank you for sharing your story about poor Rax, I know everyone misses him.

Rest in peace, little one. You took great care of him, Pat. I wonder what happened? At least he is in a safe place now watching over you. I do believe that animals have souls and that they watch out for us from time to time, kind of like people. Maybe that sounds kind of strange, but that's what I believe and that's what I believe Daryl will do.

Maybe he left because he knew you were having a hard, trying time in your life right now and you needed a guardian angel.

Ash,

thank you.
I did the best I could for Daryl. such bad timing for him to get sick and pass away.
I miss him, as does the other two foxes and george.
at his age, it could have been anything that killed him. he would have been 13 this year.

It was horrible to see him so lifeless. but, now pain free. maybe cancer? I don't know what type of illnesses foxes get,
but, I would guess, same as a dog or other animals.

from research I have done on foxes, sounds like their average life span is 10-12 years.
but, have heard of some dying younger

thank you Juska for the rainbow bridge. it is sad, but, beautiful.

I have one similar, put it in a frame, and hung it on my wall with the foot print of all my other deceased animals.

Hugs to you and all of your other animals Pat. Its so hard to loose one, hard on us and hard on the other animals. Its amazing and heartbreaking to see them grieve for lost buddies and housemates. Its been almost a month since Giz lost her kitty buddy and she's really only just now getting back to her old self. I'm glad you have a big household, I'm sure that will help.
I know that doesn't make things easier on you though... hang in there. As someone mentioned earlier, you have so many that love and depend on you.

I know it's been a hard time for you and loosing a companion just makes it harder. Try to find comfort in those you still have.
