So then Viktor = Mikhail (Unless I totally got the whole 'which one is bigger' thing backwards)

If they really want to commericialize the foxes, they need to get them to the US in a fox friendly state and breed them there.

Russia doesn't export them until they've been spayed or neutered.

They also won't sell them for resale.

@zebra Are you still planning on getting that female that the institute offered you?

Hi guys
@ thyrym they dont -really- want to commercialize the foxes. that isnt the experiment priority. they do it to receive support for the institute. Also, the vast majority of their fox sales have gone to russians or europeans, where it isnt so much of a hassle.

@Tobias, yes im still working on importing Anya. It is a lot of work and a lot of time spent waiting. I see now why hardly anyone in the U.S. has bothered with this. It is such a pain and so expensive. I had to build a custom transport cage also. She will be spayed soon. I'll probably have her in March hopefully... Im trying to distract myself right now and not think about it, because its such a long wait. Im looking for a new house to move in to at the moment so thats a good distraction

Good luck, keep at it. I'm disappointed with the approach the zoo is taking towards their foxes (these are domestic animals being treated as regular foxes, outside of maybe some extra attention.) It will be nice to hear some true information on how they behave in a home, how they interact with strangers, etc. :3

the zoo doesnt fully understand what they have. they probably had never heard of the experiment prior to this and still might not really know. just think they have some friendly tame foxes from russia.
as much as i appreciated you taking the videos i couldnt keep watching them, it. was really breaking my heart seeing them exhibited as wild animals would be

The Institute confirmed with a reporter I spoke today that Viktor and his brother are the first foxes to be imported to the U.S.
Anya will be the third

Ah, I see. I looked up Saint Petersburg and it's a city in Russia, not the US.
Good luck Zebra, I look forward to hearing about how she compares in behavior to other foxes.

Woah. Really? :O That's so awesome, but partially not in a good way. ^_^;; You take extra care of that foxie, and good luck, can't say that enough.

I told the reporter what I could, but there's so much more that you're personally able to share with him than I could. Especially with as little information as the zoo shares about their 'behind the scenes' care.

Alynn, St. Petersburg (still Saint, but often times abbreviated) is a city located off the Gulf of Mexico, near Tampa, in Florida. There are quite a few people on here who live there, such as the owner of my fennec's brother as well as Wes (TombRaiderWes). I live about two hours away from St Pete, but have a condo on the beach there. Regardless, whichever article that reported that there was a Russian fox there is wrong. Just wanted to clarify. =)

Mother of one daughter, one dog, two cats, one fennec fox, three hedgehogs, two short tailed opossums, three sugar gliders, three velveteen rabbits, one bearded dragon, one tortoise, twelve ball pythons, and several rats.

Indeed St Petersburg is a city in Russia.
How odd, I could have sworn Cat person said his friends had a domesticated silver fox in the US. . . I must be mistaken.
