Rolled oats?

Postby Alynn » Fri Mar 22, 2013 1:28 pm

I want to start feeding Miehiera this:

And I'm looking at the ingredient list - a lot of this stuff are things we buy anyway.
We have a big, tall can of rolled oats, Quaker oats:

And I'm not sure if that's okay, or if there needs to be something else, if this is too sugary or what, I have no idea.
I'm also not sure how the salmon can be stored well for later used, since the recipe only calls for roughly 5.3 ounces, but I don't want to pick up that precise amount at the store every week, so.

How long do you think it should take for something to thaw in a fridge at about 40 degrees f? I can't leave it out at at room temperature or else the cats will get into it. Should I place a couple in the fridge overnight?

Also, anything else I should know? I noticed the thread on the baker's yeast as well, so I'll be sure to get the right kind.

Those are the type of oats I use. I think you should always use "old fashioned" as opposed to "instant".
Also, Ragtatter said she always had fresh salmon around to use, but said canned would be okay, if you didn't. I use this:

If you get fresh though, I would divide it up into the recipe measurements and freeze them seperately, to use each time you make a batch.
Get "brewer's" yeast. Tamanduagirl told me about getting it in bulk so I searched for that and it is so much better than what they have in a bottle at places like GNC.
About thawing, each day when I feed Lucy, I take one out of the freezer and put it in the refrigerator and it's thawed the next day.
For powdered eggshells, I peel the eggs, put the shells in the microwave for 30 seconds to dry them, them pulverize them in a coffee grinder.
The only place in town that had "wheat germ oil" was the same place I found the brewer's yeast in bulk. It was a place called Good Earth Natural Foods and they had everything you could imagine.
