Taurine for gray foxes

Postby Oatley » Thu Jul 27, 2017 2:06 pm

I have a question about taurine for grays. I have looked online and haven't found any info on it. The breeder said they get the nutrition from their food. But I'm curious if they require supplements like red foxes.

I have 500mg Taurine supplements I sprinkle once a day on chicken but would that be too much? He is roughly 14 weeks old.

Red foxes suggested getting 500-1000mg taurine per day. Or 500mg/kg food.

We don't have that kind of research on other species but assuming about the same seems safe.

You can figure out how much he eats and make sure he has the right amount., Also you could adjust the first amounts based on weight. Like I figured a fennec weighs a 1/5th of red fox so is 1/5th the daily requirements is 100-200mg per day. But it is easier for me to figure out based on amount of food anyway.

Sounds good. I know grays aren't vulpes. But I figured they still needed it since cats do and thought a little wouldn't hurt. He weighs 7.4lbs.
